Hello,
I am reaching out to the community regarding a problem I am experiencing. I have searched a bit everywhere on the internet and on forums, without success (or maybe I am just bad at searching).
To keep it simple:
I cannot play MP4 - MPEG4 videos (Gopro videos) on my PANASONIC VIERA TVs. I am trying to play the videos via a network hard drive (similar to a simplified NAS, for those who know).
All my Gopro videos are stored on a Western Digital MyCloud network hard drive connected to my router (my internet box) and connected to my entire Wi-Fi network and powerline adapters.
I can play them on PC / TABLETS / SMARTPHONES but not on my TVs.
I specifically bought this MyCloud to play all my videos on my TVs.
Does anyone have a solution, please?
Thank you in advance.

Hello Jack.9 :)
The first thing I thought about was the connection between your WD My Cloud and the TVs... For the TV to read the contents stored on the NAS, the connection between the TV and the WD My Cloud should be done via DLNA (just like it’s indicated here http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=xDkve4). This means that the file formats should be supported by the DLNA standard. If I understand correctly, you are able to connect the TVs to the NAS and the only files you can't read on the TVs are MP4 – MPEG4 videos. Are the other files (formats) being read properly? If I'm wrong, please correct me!
By the way, taking a look at the TV documentation would inform us about the formats they support (if it hasn't been done yet).
@Jack.9, have you recently updated the TV software?
There was a discussion on this Forum about a similar (but not identical) issue, and a solution was found. I’m sending you the URL: https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-32493745-wd-mycloud-probleme-avi#p32506860 and I hope the information shared there will be of interest to you.
As for your WD My Cloud (http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=ajyVDf), I must admit that in my opinion, the NAS has nothing to do with the issue occurring...
To be continued :)
Keep me updated, please!

Hello SanninWD,
Thank you for this clear and precise response.
Always professional on this forum :-)
To be clear in my response:
1. I don't know what DLNA is... is it the codec link between the network hard drive and the TV, handled by the network hard drive? Or is it handled by the TV?
To provide precise viewpoints, I need to understand what DLNA corresponds to.
2. I don't know who ensures that the file is played, is it codecs supported by the WD My Cloud network hard drive that allow it to be played on the TV? Or is it the TV's codecs that allow them to be read directly on the TV?
3. My TV can read MPEG 2 from terrestrial television (I believe it’s standard terrestrial TV) and MPEG 4 from HD terrestrial television (I believe HD terrestrial is in MPEG 4, correct me if I'm wrong). But apparently, my TVs can't read MPEG 4 files played from a USB stick. So would it be the same for a network hard drive? (Perhaps what you call DLNA)
5. The solution would be to convert my MPEG 4 to AVI format or another format via software, but I exclude that because I want to keep my files in MPEG 4 for video editing, the quality is top-notch and allows for excellent reworking. Then I would have to keep the MPEG 4 files on an external hard drive and my converted files on my network hard drive, I don’t see the point. Unless you know of a VERY fast conversion software...
6. Are there any codecs that can be installed on the TV (by some means: USB stick or other...) are there any codecs that could be installed on the network hard drive?
My 2 TVs are updated, the WD My Cloud firmware is also up to date...
Basically, I bought it for this. If it doesn’t work, it's just for music and photos. It’s a shame. -
Hi Jack.9 :)
I will take the structure of your message to avoid any misunderstandings:
DLNA is a standard that allows streaming media between devices connected to the same network (without having to transfer the content itself). For the DLNA connection to be established, the devices that come into contact must support this standard. WD My Cloud and the TV must be connected to the same WiFi network, DLNA must be activated on WD My Cloud (page 102 here http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=ajyVDf) and on the TV (the TV must also support DLNA). Please consult the TV documentation for details on that side.
Don't forget that not all content (not all file formats) can pass through DLNA.
On the NAS, apart from the MP4 – MPEG4 files, are there any other video files (other formats) available? It would be good, just for the purposes of testing, to check and see.
For now, I just suggest you review the links I sent you and check the streaming procedure again.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
