How to display a video icon with VLC Solved

Question

Hello,
I use VLC software to play my videos, and my problem is as follows: when I open the folder where I store my videos, they appear as identical icons (the orange traffic cone for those who know it), and if I want to watch a particular video, I have to open each of them one by one to find the one I'm looking for. This display is possible with Windows Media Player, though.
Does anyone know if it is possible to display a preview image like for photo icons?

I have another issue as well; when I open a photo folder and scroll through them using the "previous" or "next" arrow, the photos display in a random order, making it impossible to maintain the order of the photos, even after I’ve sorted them by date, for example. It's not a major problem, I admit, it’s just irritating over time... I know there’s a "slideshow" option, but it’s still strange that it doesn't work with the arrows...
Does anyone have an idea?

Hello,

You need to install ffdshow: http://ffdshow.info/

Download the "stable" version (official release)
During installation, if you have VirtualDub, make sure to check the integration with VirtualDub (it can be useful)
Restart your PC.

The visualizations of your .avi files will appear.

I have the same problem as you, but it doesn’t bother me too much yet.
It started happening since I disabled the following in my startup programs:
software manager
MSPservices
picassa
toolbar_eula

Type in the start menu at the bottom left: msconfig
validate
then go to startup?
compare.....

found nothing on Google....

Franouch, what you're saying may not be entirely wrong, but it might not be true either:

Indeed, I have the same problem as Erefan except that I'm on Vista, and I have movies where the image displays instead of the orange placeholder, while on others it leaves the big placeholder.

And I noticed today that I had videos from my digital camera (either .mov files) that I had placed in a folder with trailers too, and for a while, all these videos remained with big placeholders without having a preview image, but I don't know what happened suddenly today when I added more videos I had just made with my camera, as if by magic, all the icons of my videos in this folder turned into preview images?! Strange, right?

Whereas in another folder with videos of the series Smallville (in .avi format) where I searched and still desperately looking for a preview image instead of this orange and white placeholder, I can't manage to get it, even though my brother on his PC had the icons of his videos transformed immediately into preview images!
And yet there are only two videos in the folder that have previews!!

So how to do it? It's weird, it's as if the computer decides when it wants to display it or not?! :s

Have you tried opening the folder in question, going to View, then Customize this folder and in the dropdown menu, selecting Video?

Hello everyone, sorry for my compliment but I haven't been able to solve this thumbnail issue in VLC. It's true that it's not annoying, but half of my FLV extension videos (it seems to me) have their title images while others have the construction icon. If you have a simple, quick, and effective tip, please don't hesitate.
