Xperia Z Tablet: YouTube Incompatible

Hello, I have an old Sony Xperia Z tablet and I can no longer use the YouTube app. It says in the Google Store that the device is not compatible with this application. However, I have no problems with YouTube Music, nor with other streaming platforms, such as Disney+. Is it really impossible to install the version that works? Thank you for your help. Have a good day.

Hello,
For context, we are talking about a smartphone with:
- Play Store that prevents updating the Youtube app
- Youtube is not uninstallable since it comes pre-installed with the Google Apps during the OS installation
Alphabet (Google) recently changed its API calls on the Youtube servers, causing many services to no longer connect with these servers. All developers had to update their calls. This does not pertain to URL links but to a less "user-friendly" communication method that does not concern you directly. This is a preamble for what follows.
Therefore, proposing an older version of the official Youtube app will not solve the problem since it will not be able to communicate.
At this stage, there are 2 solutions 1/2:
- Download a different browser and use it only for Youtube
- ... or stay on your usual browser with quick access to Youtube
- Use an app that performs the same actions as the official app.
- These apps are banned from the Play Store solely for non-compliance with the terms of use, and by this point, they will never be there. Therefore, the Play Store conducts no security checks, and any installation of a third-party .apk is at your own discretion and risk
- The one I recommend is open-source and has a strong community
- Download the .apk NewPipe, a wrapper for Youtube from their website.
- Here is a tutorial for installing APK if needed.
- You will be able to import your subscriptions, but since it does not track your activities, the homepage will necessarily be irrelevant, which is why it is not present. You will find trending videos and those from your subscriptions.
- Alternatively, for other readers of the topic, PipePipe on the F-Droid store but we're entering a rabbit hole. I advise you to stick with NewPipe without minimal knowledge of the environment and security on Android

Hello lili68310
You need at least Android version 5.0
Then completely uninstall YouTube and try to reinstall it
Best regards.
