No sound from VGA to HDMI screen

Hello, I have an ASUS Vivopc compact. Consequently, when I remove my USB stick, the VGA port tends to disconnect. I then tried a VGA-to-HDMI adapter, but I have no sound anymore!
In the sound window, Playback tab, I have 3 items:
-speakers;
-digital audio (SPDIF);
-Screen (high definition audio device highlighted in green).
The Windows 10 Troubleshooter does not help!
I don't understand!
Thank you for your help

Hello,
It should be noted that with VGA, the sound is not transmitted... those who do have an additional cable connected to the headphone jack (3.5mm).
We can also say that adapters of this kind... There are no miracles, it's more like a lottery.
Thank you for your response, but, uh, isn't there a misunderstanding since I've always had sound with a VGA connection.
However, indeed I have an adapter with a jack plug and another one without....????
As he said, the VGA port only carries the image, not the audio at all. If you had sound, it means the analog audio output, probably a jack, is connected to either a speaker or a headphone. There is also a headphone output through which you can get sound, as well as an optical audio output. Unless your screen has built-in speakers, in which case the PC's audio output is connected to the screen via a jack. So check your connections.
Well, yes, and it's been 20 years since my setup has worked like this, WITHOUT EXTERNAL SPEAKERS, without any other connection: no jack, no audio cable, no other link between the CPU and the monitor, just USB and VGA. Come and see for yourself if you pass through Bordeaux or I'll make a video for you.... but in any case, I have sound coming from my monitor.
Hello.
You're cute Zorglub.
It's mechanical and scientific, a VGA cable only carries video.
We would like the video or at least photos of what is connected that made it so you had sound on the monitor.
"come and see if you're passing through Bordeaux or I'll make a video for you."
If you pay for the trip, I would be ready to come show you that what you're saying is impossible. Otherwise, send us screenshots of your connections.
PS: does your ASUS Vivopc compact really have 20 years of age?
For confirmation, the screen does not have speakers, but the mini PC should have a tiny built-in speaker.
It may seem silly, but is the speaker icon on Windows clearly visible in the bottom right? Is there no cross next to it?
Waiting for the exact reference of the computer as Flo88 pointed out.
Hello,
As mentioned, VGA does not carry sound.
Your PC seems to be equipped with 2 2W stereo speakers built-in.
Check this out, the sound should/should have come from your PC.
Yes, on a desktop PC it's rare, hence the misunderstandings.
VGA does not carry sound AND in this case, it's the PC that produces it (everyone is right ;-) )
...........
In your case, it's possible that your adapter is causing trouble.
Like the PC has a hard time understanding what's plugged in, it turns off the sound from the built-in speakers and switches it to the HDMI output. (or other)
With headphones, do you get sound?
In terms of sound settings/preferences, test other options. (the speakers you mentioned)
Send pictures of the audio choice and settings, of your adapter used, and of the connection you are making.
(more like a reference or ad for what converter you got)

Without regular feedback from you... you can always refer to article 22 ;-)
A mini note regarding the volunteers who are helping you: Reply, Respect, Politeness,...
Indeed, I would not have believed it possible to put h-p in such a compact case, but by putting my ear on the monitor and then on the CPU, I can clearly hear it.
There you go, the mystery is solved, thank you.
You're welcome, but wait, that doesn't totally address your current sound issue.
Or logically have you found an explanation (because the topic is a bit "messy")?
Like using an adapter from your PC's HDMI output (which carries the sound) to a VGA screen, in that case you would need speakers or the ability to adjust the sound on your PC's speakers.
There are a large number of "VivoPC mini" models, with at least three extra digits to denote the exact model...
Thus, with the right documentation, one can know exactly what it is and avoid discussing for two years based on assumptions.. Anyway, VGA has never transmitted Audio; as I mentioned in my first POST.
This mini PC has two audio jack 3.5mm outputs, just use them, it's simple.
And an optical connection for better quality audio.
Well, yes, it's true that it doesn't fully answer my question since I originally wanted to connect to the HDMI output and hoped to do without external speakers: that's why I was looking for a Windows setting on the site, as Clarckos mentioned...
This Asus ViVoPc-VM60-G001R model also has a VGA output, no need for an adapter... Audio output in 3.5mm Jack
But you have to make this choice at the time of purchase (don’t get it wrong)
I wasn't wrong.
These devices are very efficient, inexpensive (Intel Core I7 for €850 including VAT currently) and I put it in my backpack when I go to my countryside. And since I had a DVD burner after my desktop PC's failure...
The downside is that there are no screws to secure the VGA port, hence my problem!
I'm having a hard time following you now because so many things are being written that it no longer allows us to pinpoint the problem.
You write "In the sound window, Playback tab, I have 3 items...." Please specify the 3 items in question. Better yet, could you post a screenshot of the Playback window.
Well, that's it, it's working. Thank you all for your help.
I turned off the computer, reconnected with the HDMI connector;
Right-click on the speaker in the bottom left of the screen.
1st choice: open sound settings;
1st box at the top - I had the screen as the target (K202HQL);
By expanding, "Speaker (2- High Definition Audio Device) now appears which I checked!
I found the sound from my CPU!!!!
Well, here’s a completed matter... It was deserving, but the fruit has ripened.
Best of luck.
