Hello,
I use a laptop that I connect to an external screen. That screen doesn't have an HDMI port, but a VGA port.
My old laptop had a VGA port, it was quite simple to connect the two and listen to the sound coming from the laptop with regular headphones (with a male jack that connected them to the laptop).
My new laptop has an HDMI port, no VGA. I bought an HDMI to VGA adapter from Aukey, but I lose resolution and, most importantly, I have no sound, even when I display the image on both screens. I understand that I need to buy an HDMI to VGA + audio adapter.
But how do I get the sound to come out of the headphones? The audio output of the adapter is a male jack, and so are the headphones. How do I connect the two?
Thank you in advance!

"I bought an HDMI/VGA adapter by Aukey, but I'm losing resolution."
Clearly because of the adapter.
Indeed, and contrary to what salespeople try to make us believe, the maximum definition in VGA is higher than HDMI... at least until HDMI 1.3. Because HDMI 1.4 allowed for 4K, which is higher than what the VGA controller can handle.
When you connect the PC via HDMI to a monitor that does not output sound (for one reason or another), inform the PC to use the usual audio output by manually selecting the sound device (instead of leaving it on automatic, where it will direct sound to HDMI as soon as something is plugged in, just like it does with video).
"The audio output of the adapter is a male jack, the headphones are also. How to connect the two?"
With a male Jack-Jack cable (the reference to the Incredibles here is purely coincidental and cannot be blamed on the speaker...).

Because the manuals don't say everything... But not nothing either, huh! -
Thank you very much for your quick response! The sound issue is resolved, so no need for the Jack-Jack.
However, is it therefore not possible to get a better display? Even at maximum resolution, the colors are not very nice.
