Hello,
At my mother's place, there was a power outage. When I arrived on Saturday at noon, I wanted to connect my smart device (like a smart alarm clock) and my mobile phone to the Wi-Fi, and that's when I noticed that the name of my mother's box had changed without me knowing how it happened. I tried to connect using the original name of the box but couldn't find it anywhere. I contacted Free, who fortunately provided me with the new name of the box and its access code, which I was able to see, and it worked. Free assured me that this could only happen by accessing the interface of my box or elsewhere, and I'm not very reassured. I would like to know how this is possible according to you.
In short, the original name was X with a certain code, and now it's Y with a different code, and I can't see the original name of the box; it doesn't exist.
Thank you.
Configuration: Windows / Chrome 97.0.4692.99

Good evening,
For your information:
The original name of the wifi network and the password are inside the box containing the Server unit. There is also a QR code.
This network name and the password may have been changed from the start if it’s a box change. (The old credentials are automatically retrieved; that’s what happened to me and I never used the credentials provided in the cardboard box).
To find the current credentials, you can:
1) Go to the Free Portal https://subscribe.free.fr/login/
Then: My Freebox => View my wifi network
2) Use Freebox OS: http://mafreebox.freebox.fr/
Then Freebox Settings => Wifi => Network configuration
3) View them on the television:
Settings => System => Freebox Player and Server Information => Wifi
After entering the parental code, you can see the password and retrieve it with a QR code
It seems that currently you can only change the credentials in Freebox OS or by using the Freebox Connect app on your smartphone.
In other words: It's not straightforward and the credentials don’t change randomly!

What is well conceived is clearly stated,
And the words to say it come easily.

-- The SSID name: I meant that there is often a number integrated into these names.. So that means you would need to retype this name with a number in it... Noet7Payu for example.
I think this SSID didn't have that name originally..??
-- It's quite normal that you don't show your Wifi key; the important thing is that you know it. Just know that you can also change it... Just in case someone has this key and takes the opportunity to come into your BOX.?
-- Of course, after these changes, you will need to see all the devices connected via Wifi; because they will no longer be connected... Unless you give them the new values..

the important thing is that you know it. Yes, but I didn't know it at all until I talked to Free on the phone.
Know that you can also change it Yes, and I intend to do it eventually, hoping it won’t prevent me from connecting later via RJ45 if I do, because on RJ45, I have the original name of the box with its code.

I still don't understand why I have to connect to noetpayu via wi-fi and I can find the original name of the box and connect without any problem via RJ45, whereas the original name of the box does not appear there in wi-fi and I have to connect under another name.

that's the whims or delusions of windows that gives an ethernet connection the same name as the wifi connection (the SSID) on the same box, it's ridiculous, but that's how it is.
All of this because it recognizes the mac address of the box, but originally an ethernet connection doesn't have a name, but anyway, ethernet does recognize the box well.
Besides, neither of the two names really corresponds to a default SSID from Freebox, if I'm not mistaken.

Noet is a common name in the Eastern Pyrenees... is there a connection..? This name didn't arrive there by chance, it certainly resembles a reasoned gesture...
You also know that you can reset your BOX to factory settings, it will return to how it was on the day of its birth... and you'll have to configure it again... that could sort things out and make an update in the process, from the ISP...
Because it is very possible that your power outage caused some mess in there and that everything hasn't returned to normal...??
If I were you, I would change my Wifi password... on top of that.

This name didn't get here by chance, it really looks like a calculated move... That's for sure, it didn't just happen, so I hope it's not a hacking of the box. And apart from the smart TV and my little connected alarm clock, I can't see who could have done that.
You also know that you can factory reset your BOX; it will go back to the way it was when it was born, and you'll have to set it up again... In what way? I don't know how to do it, but I would like to.
It's very possible that your power cut caused the issue It's very possible, and I honestly think that's where it comes from because I can't see anyone doing it, and even less me or my mom doing it, and I don't think that a request for an update and updating the smart TV is the cause.

I don't know how to conduct investigations to find the culprit... Where would that lead us..??
-- The reset... https://www.astuces-pratiques.fr/informatique/hard-reset-ou-config-usine-freebox-revolution
go read from there, "Procedure for hard reset or factory config of the Freebox Revolution"
Here is a silent video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ixT9vYDj5Y
There you go, with that, you are able to do the reset.

I don't believe it... Hacking what, it would be the PC in that case... is it still on??
Does it contain any interesting secrets??
If it's on Wi-Fi, the thief must be within 20 meters... the probabilities are diminishing..
He may have reached the BOX, but nothing more... personally, I can well imagine that during the power cut... strange things happened that could have caused data crossings with another BOX from somewhere else... it's a speculation, as I see no explanations... Especially from a distance and without being able to take measurements or readings on the equipment..

That's good then. And no, it's rarely on, well it's plugged in but not turned on. And it doesn't contain interesting things, at least I don't think so.

In any case, I don't know how this could have happened, but there it is.

Hello, I have the same problem as you, except that FREE has never acknowledged that they were responsible for all the changes discovered since, in fact, I’m on my second name change without ever being informed or questioned. The problem this has created is simply the loss of the Wi-Fi connection between the box and my PC. I’ve made about fifteen calls to FREE and no representative knows how to restore my Wi-Fi connection, so I haven’t had a computer for 3 weeks. THANK YOU FREE.
Good evening ADAM
I'm having trouble setting up my printer via Wi-Fi because I see the name of the box 55B... when connected through RJ45, and on Wi-Fi, it's noetpayu bre,f. I'm going to call someone who I think and hope knows about this to check and find out. I'm sick with COVID and my mother is too, so for now I'm waiting.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe it too much...
Either you connect to another Wi-Fi in your area... which is free and open... So to you, it's another name.
Or someone accesses your BOX and changes the SSID name without your knowledge...
You too can enter the menus of your BOX and give the name of your choice to your Wi-Fi... and make sure to activate the WPA security settings... on this Wi-Fi... and at the same time, also change the password that accesses your BOX to make it more difficult for visitors..
Then you need to correct the SSID on your PC so that the connection can be made..
That's the task... to better protect yourself.

Thank you, but I got this box name from Free, who gave it to me along with the password. This happened after a sudden outage because a transformer burned out in the street.
Maybe someone accessed your BOX and changed the SSID name without your knowledge... That's probably possible. As for the rest, I don't really know what to do, and above all, I'm afraid of making mistakes.

Hello,
To clarify the question, is it not rather about the name of the box, the name of the Wifi network?
And precisely which model of Freebox?
I have a Freebox Mini 4K and indeed a regular power cut does not change the name of the wifi network. As Free support has indicated to you. But perhaps a more aggressive cut could reset the settings?
A beginning of an answer could lie in the name you found?

a foreigner is a friend we haven't met yet.

Model: Freebox Revolution is the name you see when you search for a box for Wi-Fi to connect to that box. In short, it was named 55BBCF and now it has another name and another key. The box 55BBCF no longer exists (does not exist), you cannot connect to it and you cannot see it. There was a power outage and an update requested on the TV. Free assured me that it cannot be the updates that caused this.

Hello,
Of course, the name and password and Wi-Fi key, etc. can be changed if you access the router's interface... and generally, it's done by someone who is nearby or not far away at all...
In this kind of operation, there is someone interested... and who knows a bit about it, it's not the grandmother who does this...
That said, there are many routers that keep their name and password for their entire life, just like SIM card codes that remain as originally set... It can be quite easy for a close neighbor to connect to your router and change a lot of things inside...
This way, the "intruder" can connect at will and no longer needs an Internet subscription.
Only the Wi-Fi key is difficult to find... But under certain circumstances, it can be read on the router... but it’s not a power outage that changes this... it seems mysterious because we don’t know everything.
Everyone should change the name, the password, the Wi-Fi key, the IP address range, as soon as the router is delivered... but only 5% do it.

Yes, things like that are a possibility... it all depends on what happened... we don’t know the life of this Box and the encounters it makes...
Hi,
are you by any chance connecting to the guest network and it happened to be disabled after the power outage?

It might be possible to have found a BOX from the neighbor..?? the name is not the same and it's impossible to connect to it, it should be possible too, it all depends on the distance..
In general,
the last 6 characters of the default SSID correspond to the end of the MAC address of the box,
can you read these characters 55BBCF in the MAC address of the server box?
It should be indicated on the identification label, but it can also be read in Freebox OS.

I will do it as soon as I’m at my mother’s. Knowing that the box 55BBCF exists because physically (I have the original box) but no longer exists (it’s not visible) for Wi-Fi, and when I enter it manually with the name of the box and its key, it’s not detected, so I can only do it via the paper, I believe. I’ll also check via the app. I’ll let you know the SSD or both if I see both, if there are indeed two.

I dare to suggest in passing to use an RJ45 ethernet cable to connect the PC during these few operations and not to use Wi-Fi...
The certainty of being properly connected to the right BOX..! yes indeed.. and being able to access the Wi-Fi settings without being cut off in the middle of the action.
There you go, I’ll close my intrusion.

So I’m giving some news, thank you for your responses.
When connected via RJ45, I am connected under the original name of the box, which is 55BBCF.
If connected via Wi-Fi, I have to connect under the name Noet Payu and enter the Wi-Fi key because I haven't entered it yet.
The SSID is Noet Payu while connected via RJ45.
It’s very strange maybe, but that's how it is. I haven’t touched anything at all.

The SSID is not used by the LAN network, but only by a Wifi. It may be necessary to add a number to this SSID name for security reasons.
The same goes for WPA protection... it's only for the wifi.
In the same table, the Wifi key should be displayed.
So you just have to copy all of this (without errors) and enter it manually in Wifi on the PC, and it should connect.

The Wifi key should be displayed in the same table yes and I haven’t put it there on purpose.
Protocol type = WPA2-AES and it says recommended. I have a "drop-down" where I can choose, but I left it like that, I just looked at it. EAPOL protocol version = version 2
Next time I go there, I will connect to NoetPayu and I will enter the wifi key. And if necessary, I will make the changes hoping that it won’t prevent me from connecting.

I didn’t understand that, anyway, I’m reporting that I did everything while connected via RJ45. I’m a blonde lol, I know a little, but for certain things, I know nothing.

Indeed, I had the same problem but FREE has never acknowledged that it was a manipulation on their part, which has actually caused me other unresolved network connection issues on my PC since March 9, 2022. Thank you FREE.

Thank you FREE. I’m really glad to know that I’m not alone. Finally. I hope that for you PADAM1512 just like me we will manage to resolve this problem. Thank you FREE. If you have a solution or I do, we can message each other. In the meantime, I think I will call a PC technician (repairman), we will see. For the moment, I’m waiting a little bit since I’m not too available.

A computer repair technician will not necessarily take care of your BOX, it's not a PC..
If you absolutely want to change the SSID name of your Wifi... we've already explained it to you, it’s not difficult, you need to go into the menus of the BOX mafreebox.freebox.fr that Free provides for you.
https://assistance.free.fr/articles/328
In the Wifi sections, there’s the name of the current SSID... you click on it, type in the new name you prefer and confirm. Then you will have to go around all your devices connected to the wifi, to change this name as the new connection.
There’s no need to make a fuss about it.

This network name and the key may have been changed from the start if there was a box change. No, there has been no box change.
It seems that currently, identifiers can only be changed in Freebox OS or by using the Freebox Connect app on a smartphone. Yes, that's what Free told me, and I know that no one has done it because my mother is not good with computers lol, so it can't be her. And I'm too afraid of messing it up to do it myself...
It's not obvious, and identifiers don't change by chance! Exactly, hence my post to find out how this could have happened.
