Installing an SSD in Compaq CQ58 Laptop

Hello,
since the Compaq CQ58 laptop is very slow, I would like to replace the hard drive with an SSD, but it seems that it is not detected, please let me know the way to proceed.

      the original hard drive port, I removed the original disk to avoid accidentally damaging the data to be recovered later.

    The Compaq CQ58-D36sf is an entry-level laptop
    and I'm not talking about the CPU which is completely outdated (behind the times)
    there are no miracles with these very low-end PCs

    I agree, but with an SSD, it can improve speed. The drive
    is not detected when I try to install Win10 with a Zalman; it is detected if I connect it to a USB port, but with my Zalman, I can't install Windows from USB port to USB port.

      We don't see it in disk management?
      Go to the Microsoft website, download the creation tool, then it will mount the Windows 10 ISO, put everything on a USB stick and boot from it at startup!

        I tried to convert the RAW to NTFS but now it’s not even visible anymore, I’m afraid I completely ruined the SSD.

        diskpart
        select disk
        X: /FS :NTFS followed by the "Enter" key. (X being the drive letter).

    Hello,

    But your Zalman, is it a PC?
    (Yes, since Zalman doesn't mean much, they make parts)

    What are you doing then, what’s your idea?
    Putting your SSD in your Zalman to install Windows on it and then putting it back in your laptop?
    That wouldn't be a good idea.

    Basically, you need to create a bootable USB drive, boot your laptop from it, and install on your SSD that's in the laptop.
    Does that work or have you not tried it that way?

    In fact, the SSD has turned to RAW instead of NTFS
    and the Zalman is an external drive that contains software images and allows installation as if it were a DVD, which is super convenient when doing IT maintenance.

      Make it simple, format your SSD to NTFS (GPT, NTFS, if UEFI on the laptop)
      Create a USB installation drive (nothing else on it)
      If UEFI, install in UEFI mode (not in legacy)
      And that's it.

      Your Zalman has everything you need, super handy, but it doesn't seem to be the case this time ;-)

    I was able to recover the partition, but now the Compaq CQ58 laptop doesn't detect the SSD, and I couldn't find any option in the BIOS to enable an SSD. And yes, I confirm my Zalman is a little gem, perfect for installing programs. I will search the internet to see if I can find some information.

        Yes, it's fine, I was able to change it to NTFS using another laptop, I updated the BIOS, and I was able to install Win10 using my Zalman, and I noticed during my manipulations that it was the small interface of an external disk reader that switched the SSD to RAW, this happened on 2 drives. Now I just hope the computer will be faster, for now, I’m installing the updates.
