Hello!
So every time I want to shut down or reboot my laptop (Lenovo Y520 from 2018), I get this error message: end of program ETDctrlhelper... since this message appeared, I've also noticed a drastic decrease in my battery life... sometimes the laptop shuts down by itself when the battery still has 50-60%... any ideas?
Thank you very much ^^

Hello,
Error message must correspond to ELAN SMART PAD.
Either update the program if available or update the driver (touch pad).
Update by identifying your PC and finding the driver on the manufacturer's website.
https://support.lenovo.com/fr/fr/
or
with update software on your PC (if available)
or
another program like this https://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/48455-mettre-a-jour-ses-pilotes-gratuitement-avec-driverscloud
Your battery may be another issue (to look into after resolving the error message)
First, check its wear percentage with hw monitor
https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/11907-hwmonitor/
Towards the bottom, the "wear level" in battery
indicates the percentage.

If you're here, it's because you don't know, so...;-)

Hello Gugu, thanks for the follow-up.
I installed the drivers and everything else, no issues for now. Regarding the bug itself, it seems I just closed the process and I tried several times to turn on and restart the PC, the bug is no longer showing up.
Still 3 months of warranty, yes I'm hesitating because I'm using the PC hoping it won't stay in their hands forever.

Oh yes, as for the return warranty, it's tough; it may take some time.
But ask beforehand if the battery is properly covered (the warranty might be shorter for this component).
Depending on whether it's a brand return or possible warranty through a nearby repair shop.
(Make a backup before sending it, just in case... if they mess up the intervention)
Charge it to 100% and check again.
(manufacturer software as well, if available)
It's an internal battery, as I see, which complicates things.
You're welcome ;-)
(only if everything is OK, remember to mark your topic as resolved, thanks)

Wear level: 61%
Charge level: 21%
It looks like it took quite a hit indeed :/
I'll take care of the pad update right away
And the fact that the PC shuts down at a correct percentage is often a sign of a defective component (failing cell).
Still under warranty?
We'll see the battery conditions.
