Hello,

I decided to install Windows 10 on my PC, the update was progressing until it got stuck at 99%.
I waited over an hour and the update was still stuck.
So I decided to force shut down my computer because I was really fed up.
Once I turned it back on, a Windows message told me that:
"The computer has restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. The installation of Windows cannot continue. To install Windows, click << OK >> to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.
And this goes on infinitely, no matter how many times I click "OK" to restart the computer, this message keeps appearing infinitely.
Please help me, I've been trying to fix my problem for three days now, but unfortunately without success...
Thank you for your reading and your future responses.

Good evening!

First of all, know that you just made a big and gross mistake. When the computer tells you "Don't touch anything, it'll be fine"... you don't turn it off :-D

Next...
Do you have an installation CD for Seven, Windows 8/8.1 or an .iso image of Windows 10?
The iso is preferable, it will surely help to restart the installation.

Knowing that you have a Compaq... you can guess that it's not a powerful laptop... and consequently, it's illusory to hope to turn your donkey into a racehorse if I dare use the metaphor.

To recover a Windows 10 iso, you need to download (using another computer) the mediacreationtool available on the Microsoft website, after a quick Google search (or any other search engine).

Get a USB stick with at least 4GB of capacity.

With the tool, download the Windows 10 Home version (don't try to recover the Pro version, you wouldn't be able to activate it after installation, as the version currently on your computer is a Home version, unless I'm mistaken), then mount it on the USB stick with another software that I will now present to you:

It's called Lili USB Creator (same, a Google search).
Download the latest version, then launch it.

Choose your iso in the upper part of the software. Do not leave Linux selected by default, otherwise it would be useless.
Lili will tell you that the iso is not in the compatibility list. To reassure you, know that Lili is designed for mounting isos containing Linux distributions, which are totally different in architecture and operation compared to Windows. That's why Lili won't recognize the iso, but will mount it perfectly on the stick.

Select your USB stick

Do not enable persistence. The persistence file is only useful for certain Linux distributions.

Check the option to format the stick

Uncheck the box that ends with 'requires internet' (yes, I forgot the name ^^)

Click on the lightning bolt.

Once done, insert the stick into your failing computer.

Start your computer by quickly pressing (really very quickly) the Esc and F2 keys.

You will access a beautiful blue-black menu.

This is the BIOS Setup (or UEFI in some cases, but I doubt in your case).

In advanced settings or Boot (depending on the BIOS Setup, the presentation differs completely), place your USB stick (USB....) at the top of the list with the F5/F6 keys or +/- keys.

Once this is done, restart the computer.

Restart the installation once the computer starts from the stick (in any case, if the startup goes well, it means you are on the stick).

It should go well ;-)

For any other questions, we are at your disposal.

Have a good evening!

Luc

hmm... I don't see how a Compaq PC would be less powerful than another from a different brand...

The brand mainly produces equipment that is in the low/mid-range ;-)
At least you followed the message, right?!

ha, look.
The last time I saw a Compaq, they weren't lagging behind yet ^^'
My bad.

The best option is indeed to burn a Windows 10 CD and attempt the repair.

It seems to me that there are actions performed by percentage of progress....

In this topic, the person has reached the home screen. This is not the case for doxx whose OS crashes on startup!
