Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing a problem with a laser printer that was bought new a few months ago and has been working perfectly until now.
As the title suggests, it's a Lexmark CS317dn.
At first, I thought there might be an issue with my slightly aging laptop. But after testing it on another, more modest but newer laptop, the result is the same.
The symptom is simple: the printer remains offline no matter what I do. It only comes out of sleep mode when I press the "moon" button on the front, whereas before, it would come out automatically as soon as I started a print job.
I tested different USB cables, thinking that mine might be faulty, but that's not the case.
The same goes for the different USB ports on my machines.
Of course, it's impossible to update the firmware since Lexmark's online application cannot find the device.

As a result, on the second laptop, I tried uninstalling it, but obviously, there’s no possible reinstall since the installation application cannot find the printer when it asks me to connect it via USB.

I tried resetting the printer via the factory reset function accessible in its menus, but that doesn’t change anything. And of course, multiple reboots of both laptops don’t help either.

In short, I’m not sure what to do to figure out the source of the problem.
My main laptop runs on Win8.1 and the second one on Win10 Home, both 64-bit.

Thank you in advance for your help.
Configuration: Windows / Firefox 71.0

Hello Spawn-X,

Uninstall all printer drivers on your PCs.
Restart your PC.
Reset your printer to factory settings.

After restarting your PC, download and install this driver.

Windows 10 - 64 bits : Lexmark CS317DN

Windows 8.1 - 64 bits : Lexmark CS317DN

Firmware : Lexmark CS317dn

Make sure your printer is not in power-saving mode.

Best regards,

ChariduP - Have a nice day :)

Hello ChariduP, and thank you for your response.

Unfortunately, nothing works. In fact, when I posted my question, I had already tried this without success.
I tried again after your message, but the Lexmark installer actually gets stuck when connecting the printer to the USB port and I can't continue.

As indicated in the help provided by the installer, I have tested everything that is listed, but without success.
The printer is turned on, I have tried several cables (successfully tested with other devices) and USB ports that I am also sure are functioning well, etc., but the "Continue" button remains frustratingly grayed out and I can't proceed with the installation.
This leads me to think that it might be the printer's USB interface that is faulty, and if that's the case, I'm really in trouble considering that the printer is only a year old and has finally been used very little.

If any other ideas come to you, feel free to let me know. Thank you.

Well, after yet another attempt, it's working again without any explanations...
