Hello,
I just acquired an external hard drive of 1TB.
I thought I could save my little videos and movies on it and watch them directly on my TV.
And then, surprise, I can't, because my TV doesn't recognize my HDD.
So I’m keeping my HDD for all my photos and I’m using a 16GB USB stick (which serves as my video player) to store the videos so that I can watch them on my TV.
I have a Canal+ decoder. Is it possible to connect this HDD to my decoder? Will it recognize it?
Thank you for your responses
Titia

Welcome to the community, lagirlsnuleninfor :)
Before doing anything and if you do not have backup copies of the contents contained on this external hard drive, I suggest you obtain at least one. You never know, and it's better to be safe than sorry.
Often, it's normal for a TV not to detect a hard drive that does not have the appropriate format. The reason is that most TVs do not support the NTFS format, while NTFS is the format that hard drives intended for immediate use on Windows PCs have. Don't worry! This is easily fixable ;) You simply need to change the format of the hard drive. Caveat: reformatting a hard drive means that it will be wiped of all the data stored on it (formatting is destructive). Additionally, it would be good to know what the specific format to assign is. Normally, the FAT32 format is recognized and manageable for most players. To ensure that this will be the right choice for the TV to access the hard drive, I recommend checking the TV's documentation where the file systems would be listed.
Here’s how to proceed with reformatting: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=dJNbWv
Don't forget that FAT32 has certain limitations that should not be overlooked: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=DUUjcW
Before formatting the hard drive, make a backup of the contents elsewhere.
Looking forward to hearing from you for the next steps, @lagirlsnuleninfor!
