Laptop: password forgotten

Hello

I have a problem with the Z key on my Asus laptop keyboard. It doesn't work when I press Z. But sometimes the letter Z appears continuously without pressing it. Since the letter Z is part of my password when opening the Laptop, I made a small modification to my password.

I ordered a new keyboard. While waiting to receive it, I set my Laptop aside and use an old PC that works well enough.

Unfortunately for me, today I tried to turn on my Laptop and I must have forgotten my new password because it won't open.

I imagine that besides continuing to try passwords, I have no other choice.

What do you think?

    Hello,

    You could use the on-screen keyboard

    You can reinstall Windows with a working keyboard by removing the keyboard that doesn’t work.

    CCM contributors do not provide a way to bypass protections. It is important to carefully note passwords because we are all victims of memory loss sooner or later.

    Unless you reset your PC after backing up the documents, which involves connecting the disk to a second PC via an external adapter or enclosure.

      Yes, to be clear in a few lines, we don’t help with passwords, but we help to reinstall Windows in this case. Windows 10 and 11 are in effect, but 10 is nearing the end.

      From another PC, use the Media Creation Tool to download an ISO file of Windows 10 (for another PC). For Windows 11, if compatible, it can be downloaded directly, to create an 8 to 16 GB USB drive or larger to upgrade, repair, or install Windows.

      When you have the Windows ISO file, you can create a bootable USB drive with Rufus or Ventoy

      If the PC is old, you must create the USB drive in MBR mode

      If it is newer (Windows 8 or higher) in GPT mode for EFI (Secure Boot Support for Ventoy depending on how the BIOS is configured)

      Start from it using the PC's Boot Menu key

      You can search on Google for "[Brand Model] Boot Menu Key"

      Choose "Custom installation" (Not upgrade)

      Delete all system partitions and create a new one.

    I want to avoid resetting.

    After researching I found on the internet how to change the password.

    Nothing complicated. I’m even impressed by how easily a user password can be changed and thus access the contents.

    In any case, this proves that a user password does not protect access to the Laptop.

    I will soon tackle changing the keyboard... then, I will look into ways to better protect access.
