Hello,
I just bought an external hard drive, I put some movies on it, but when I plug it into the USB port of my TV, it doesn't detect it. I had another hard drive before from the same brand as the one I currently have (WD), which worked perfectly on this same TV. My TV is a Samsung (UE32D4000NW). Do you have a solution to remedy this? Thank you in advance for your help.

Welcome to the forum, Ratchet01 :)
If the old HDD was working normally on this same TV, it seems strange that the new HDD is not being detected. @LeJoueurDuDimanche is right, the file system (the format) of a hard drive is of paramount importance during the communication the device is trying to establish with an HDD. For this reason, I echo his request to know the file system of your new WD HDD (it may be the reason for this behavior).
Nevertheless, if I’m not missing any details, the TV model supports file systems FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS. Normally, a drive used under Windows is formatted in NTFS (not necessarily, but often that is the case). Following this logic, I assume that the format of your new HDD is NTFS… In any case, please check and verify the properties of the HDD (from a PC) to see what is reported.
If the USB cable is good and you test another HDD on this same TV (without issue), we could consider reformatting the new HDD (formatting is destructive to data).
Ratchet01, could you check the TV's manual to be sure of the file systems (formats) that it can recognize?
Looking forward to your reply :)

First of all, thank you for your quick responses. The file system is NTFS, so if I understand correctly, most TVs support this type of file...?
But my TV must be bugging; it detects devices on the PC and EXT ports even though nothing is plugged in there...
Are there any settings to adjust on the TV to fix this issue?
I checked online, and my TV supports NTFS, FAT16, and FAT32...
Thank you for your help.
Actually, the manual for this TV model does indicate that NTFS is supported… In my opinion, the format of the hard drive is not the issue. If you have any doubts regarding the TV's connectivity, it would be a good idea to get in touch with the manufacturer's support to see what options are available… By the way, have you updated the TV recently? I think that would be a worthwhile step :)
@Ratchet01, have you tested the old hard drive that was detected and operational on the TV? Does it still work on the TV? This cross-test will open up avenues to explore…
To be continued :)
Happy holidays to you and @+
