There are birds capable of flying for days, even months, without ever touching the ground. The black swift, for example, holds the record for the longest continuous flight: some individuals can stay in the air for ten months in a row, feeding, sleeping, and reproducing entirely in flight. This contrasts sharply with cases like the chicken, whose flying abilities are limited due to domestication, or even the city pigeon, which needs to land regularly to rest and feed.       The sound and the number of swallows are very evocative even from not very close, but apart from what swallows are also in decline for the same reasons, there are specific zones since the nests are generally reused, and for example this year in the area of the municipalities of the Port-Cros National Park, it was observed among the different species close to 4,000 swallows (in principle over a shorter migration period) and strictly no swallows, compared to roughly 300 in 2025. There is a massacre in the non-coastal zone because more than swallows they have the unfortunate habit of nesting under roofs, where, like people with heat waves in buildings, they die from the heat.
