Unable to connect to free ftp

Hello,

For quite some time now, I have been trying to connect to my free FTP via an FTP client, but it doesn't work. I usually go through FileZilla and I got this response:

So I downloaded FTP Expert 3, but I still do not have access with a similar report:

I am not a PC pro, so I do not know how to solve the problem :s So if anyone has a solution, they would have my gratitude in return!!

      We can therefore summarize Free's response found in this discussion.

      There is a failure on the server ftpperso.free.fr. No date for recommissioning has been announced.

      Users connected to a Free line have a workaround: instead of ftpperso.free.fr, use mon_compte.free.fr (e.g. bernard.free.fr).

      Hello, as a beginner I have the same issue connecting to my Free server, what should I enter?
      For me it’s: ftp://totalpcone:***@ftpperso.free.fr
      and it doesn’t work, what should I type, please... The rest shouldn’t change, I suppose ID and password

      @ camazets

      Only people using their connection from a Free subscription can connect to the FTP. Your message is written from an Orange subscription (as a moderator, I have access to part of the IP addresses of the messages), if you try from this line you cannot open the FTP.

      From a Free connection, the complete string should be:

      -> 
      ftp://totalpcone:***@totalpcone.free.fr

      Well, has the string changed again?
      I'm with SFR and of course it doesn't work, but I'm using Total Commander by Christian Ghisler, and when I save the connection settings, the "ftp://" at the beginning disappears...

    So the FTP site name to use has changed.

    Until now it was always ftpperso.free.fr

    Now, I just tested it, you need to give the same address as the personal website.

    For website = http://fred.free.fr, the FTP site is fred.free.fr 

    THIS IS ONLY VALID IF YOU ARE ON A FREE INTERNET CONNECTION

      Doesn't work at my place. It's even worse (Connection established, waiting for the welcome message...
      Error: Unable to connect to the server) while with ftpperso.free.fr I at least had the error 421.

    If you are using FileZilla for example, enter the name of your database in the host (e.g. ma_base_de_donnee.free.fr) instead of ftpperso.free.fr and it should work!

    Great, I've been struggling to access Free and update the association's Free sites since this morning.

    Thanks to you, I succeeded.

    A huge THANK YOU halke for your message:
    "If you use FileZilla for example, enter the name of your database in the host (e.g. ma_base_de_donnee.free.fr) instead of ftpperso.free.fr and it should work!"

    That’s what allowed me to connect with FileZilla.

    We are not the only ones, however I read on this page (dated December 24) "4/ dl.free hacked and therefore down", did Free suffer a hacker attack?

    This one is particularly interesting:

    It says among other things "Access from a line not from Free (e.g.: Orange, Numericable, SFR...) is temporarily impossible regardless of the FTP address used.
    Since the problem is identified, there is no reason it shouldn't be fixed in the short term."

    If that's the case, we just have to wait for it to be repaired...

    Hi,

    I just tried the FTP on my free accounts, impossible to connect. The problem comes from Free. The only solution is to wait for it to be fixed.

    Whether with FireFTP (Firefox) or Filezilla, impossible...

    Well, I hope the problem will be resolved quickly because besides this FTP, I also have a website to manage... At worst, I'll contact support by tomorrow or after Christmas.

    In any case, Free is really a mess right now! I'm with them for my box too and I'm having a lot of issues with it!

    I've been searching for hours to figure out why this isn't working, and it reassures me to know I'm not the only one...
    Here's part of my error messages:

    I'm giving up, hoping it will work tomorrow...?

    I indeed think that for now that's all we can do, especially since Davidjf has already reported the issue. So yes, in the worst case, I'll report it to support tomorrow hoping that mass complaints will make them react quickly.

    In any case, it's strange because I've had my FTP for nearly 10 years and it's the first time I've had such a problem.

    I wanted to retest in normal mode and I got this message:

    Status: Waiting before retrying...

    But yes, it works by going directly through the host as Halke indicated!

    The problem is far from being resolved because this morning, once again, connection impossible with either method. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

    It seems that Free wants to prevent us from getting the sites to work!!!!!!!!!

    You need to replace ftpperso.free.fr with nomdusite.free.fr when connecting to FTP. But BE CAREFUL you must use a FREE connection!
