Free FTP server inaccessible

Hello,

I want to update a personal site on free.fr (millennial? XD).

I can log into the email account, but the server https://ftpperso.free.fr/ is not responding, whether on Chrome or with Filezilla.

I thought it might be a Windows update that closed or restricted port 21. But I don't see anything, and even with Defender disabled, there is no response.

I should mention that the site itself is still accessible, I'm in front of it... but it’s stuck in 2025 :-(

Thank you in advance for any leads,

Gilles

Hello,

port 21 isn't https, nor http, it's ftp. On FileZilla, we don't provide

the URL with the protocol, just the fqdn in host: ftpperso.free.fr with the correct user and password

FileZilla on ftpperso.free.fr © brupala

And there you have it ....

But misery, those line spacings are so annoying !!

Thank you @brupala StatutMembre.

This is indeed what I'm doing on Filezilla (and it doesn't work), the link from @bazfile StatutModérateur, Contributeur sécurité is the one from the Free web interface... much less user-friendly, as you would agree.

Here's what Filezilla 3.68.1 tells me:

A problem in the Filezilla update? An erroneous setting?

Strange issue you have there, personally, I'm on 3.67.1, I don't get this message about switching to passive mode, even though I'm configured to switch, I wonder why it's not switching, but well I don't have the PASV display

Edit:

well, I've switched to 3.68.1 and I now have the PASV response display that I didn't have before, what is certain is that PASV works (there's no reason it shouldn't work in the first place):

Command : PASS ******** Response : 230 User brupala logged in. Status : The server does not support non-ASCII characters. Status : Connected Status : Retrieving directory contents… Command : PWD Response : 257 "/" is current directory. Command : TYPE I Response : 200 Type set to I Command : PASV Response : 227 Entering Passive Mode (212,27,63,3,13,126). Command : LIST Response : 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for file list Response : 226 Transfer complete. Status : Directory contents of « / » displayed successfully Status : Connection interrupted by the server

Don't you have a stupid firewall?

I only have Windows Defender as a firewall, Filezilla was approved, but I still disabled it, with no apparent change.

Everything goes normally until the response "150 Opening ASCII mode..."

And that's it, I don't retrieve the directory structure online.

I still have 2 installation files, the least old one is FileZilla_3.62.2_win64-setup (Feb. 2023, I need to clean up...).

I’m going to try a downgrade, see if it changes anything (at my place).

Well... it's exactly the same symptoms with version 3.62.2 :(

Something happened between September and December, but what?

It's mainly the data connection in passive mode that's not working, even though there's no reason for it; it works at my place.

But what, yes, it's tricky, try disabling passive mode to stay in active mode, but there's no reason it should be simpler, because it's up to your box to do the job of opening the data port.

Oh, I'm thinking of something, are you connecting with a Free connection or not?

If yes, do you have full stack access?

I'm going to test it in a VPN to see.

Well, I tested it in two different VPNs, both work (Free connection).

Good evening @bazfile StatutModérateur, Contributeur sécurité and thank you for your response.

I am indeed using this address, as described in the help https://assistance.free.fr/articles/631

With Filezilla I get a negative response:

Error: Connection interrupted after 20 seconds of inactivity
Error: Unable to retrieve the contents of the folder

However, I notice that by clicking on the link in Free's help, I can connect. But I lose sight of the entire site structure... :-(

Weird, there must be a "bug between the chair and the keyboard," but where?:?

Click on the link in my previous message and read the three lines below the password, especially the one in red.

? your link? article 620? red line?

If that's your comment, I'm not using "monadresse.free.fr", as I've had another provider since 2019. I'm therefore exclusively using "ftpperso.free.fr".

I'm currently "tinkering" with my transfers on the free interface (= your first link), it's on Filezilla that it's still getting stuck.

I'm leaving the subject (not necessarily well organized) on hold...

Thanks ;-)

Your link?

I'm talking about this link that, despite appearances, is different from yours, http://ftpperso.free.fr/.

Oh yes, the "testing phase"... it's been a number of years already, lol!
