p5q pro no beep, no BIOS, black screen Solved

Hello,I just acquired the components for a new PC:-core 2 duo E8400-ASUS P5Q pro-2x2 GB RAM G.Skill-ATI HD4870-Antec 500W PSU-500 GB HDDAfter assembling, a problem appeared: all the fans, the HDD, the graphics card… everything is running. But the CPU fan is not working and the motherboard seems to refuse to turn on: the LED is lit, but there’s no BIOS, just a black screen… Is there a solution????PLZ help

Sorry, I'm saying this because I sold a case to a guy who had a BTS in computer science and he complained that his PC wouldn't start, and he hadn't put the spacers in place.

Hi everyone, being also a happy owner of this motherboard, the problem comes from your memory.
What frequency is your memory at? Because when I try to boot with Kingston 533, I get a black screen, no boot, and when I put in 667, it boots without any problem. Try another RAM stick and keep us updated.... See you!

But I just noticed that my graphics card doesn't fit all the way into the PCIe slot and my RAM is DDR2 800MHz from G.Skill, so it's supported by ASUS.

Hello,  I received my new setup tonight and I'm experiencing exactly the same problem as you, except my CPU fan is running, but after that, it’s all the same... black screen... no beeping... nothing, nada, zero :(  My setup: P5Q PRO E8400 2X1024 CORSAIR 6400 HD 4850 Forton 500w power supply  For now, I've tested with 1X1024 SAMSUNG 6400 but no change. I assume you have a standard VGA output on your motherboard.

If you can connect your monitor to it and boot with just the processor and one stick of RAM, without a hard drive or a drive, and also remove your GPU.

And let us know what happens.

Here are the evening news...   The power supply is OK: tested another 600W power supply on the setup and nothing changes  The GPU is OK: tested on another setup OK and tested an 8600GTS which doesn't change the problem  The RAM is OK: same as the GPU, tested on the setup with Samsung recommended for the P5Q PRO   In testing only CPU + 1GB RAM + power supply, motherboard & case: nothing changes  Replaced the CMOS battery: no change   It must be the motherboard at fault :((  By the way, from what I've read on various forums, the issue with this motherboard seems to be recurring :-(   I don't have much time for tonight, so I'll continue tomorrow:  Clear CMOS  Check the EATX 12V power supply: it is originally on the motherboard with 8 pins, 4 of which are under a cover. The motherboard manual recommends removing the cover and using an EPS 12V. Still need to find a power supply that has one ;(((

P5Q pro E8400 2x1go corsairs dominator 8500 and HD 3870 X2     Hi everyone, I have the same P5Q pro and I have the same black screen issue following a brief power outage. I've tested all the components separately and they all work. I did a clear CMOS, changed the battery, etc., but nothing changed...  I think the BIOS got corrupted...LONG LIVE ASUS!!! A board for €130!!!  So I had a P5KC in stock, I installed it in my case and it rebooted, so I reconnected everything and put it back and weirdly, it started again :s  I removed the battery, put it back, and voilà, it works...Since then, every time I turn it off, I have to remove the battery before restarting...  For the same problem to occur on 2 different motherboards, I conclude that the case must be causing a short or something like that (advance turbo case, a low-end one). My first motherboard wouldn't restart even after removing the battery (burnt BIOS, sent back to support).  Before sending back my motherboard (the P5Q pro), I'm going to install it in another case to see if this grounding issue is affecting it; whether it's burnt out or if the grounding problem was preventing it from restarting...  To be continued... Although I've built quite a few PCs, this is the first time I've had so many issues with a motherboard; I thought I bought (a good) brand, I'm pretty frustrated......

It's done, this time with the minimum, it beeps!!!! one long and 3 short... telling me it's because there's no keyboard... very well, I plug it in, no more beeping, I put the graphics card back in to try to get the famous BIOS, and no, still no screen, no beeps......

lol little correction, AMI BIOS 1 long beep, 3 short beeps: video error / check if the graphics card is properly seated, if it doesn't work, replace it  so it would be good at the PCI-E slots because with two different cards and two different slots it's the same and it was working before...  Result go to customer service and there you go

Some say it could be a BIOS compatibility issue for the E8400 chips manufactured in 0.0045µ. A BIOS update has reportedly been released but is not installed by default on the motherboard. What do you think?

It's possible. The E8400 comes in two revisions, the latest one (E0) requires a recent BIOS version for the P5Q Pro (the 1004) to be properly supported, but still, I have doubts whether this would prevent the boot.. But you never know... especially if it's a real E0, the other 8400 (C0) is natively supported.   A BIOS update was released but may not be pre-installed on the motherboard. What do you think? The fact is that Asus does not sell its motherboards with the latest BIOS versions, which is one of the downsides of Asus. Moreover, thinking back, I don't think I've ever had or sold an Asus motherboard without flashing it.... Unlike Gigabyte.    -- Hello at your place

In my test setup of the motherboard, I put in an E6400 and it does the same thing, I think we can eliminate this BIOS update issue... Furthermore, the motherboard is sold boasting its performance, it would be surprising if this could cause a startup problem.  (thankfully I still have my old machine :p)

Be careful to properly power graphics cards of the type X2 as they require a very good power supply, otherwise you risk having this problem with a black screen... In my first setup, I had this issue because there wasn't enough power on the graphics card, but on mine, there are LEDs which allowed me to notice it quite quickly = 2 PCI-E connectors, one 6-pin and one 8-pin... Corsair 650w power supply. Hope this helps...

Finally, I got a new P5Q PRO this morning which, once assembled, works wonderfully without any other configuration changes!!! It must have been the motherboard :)

The only problem I've had since is the temperature of the HD4850 (80° idle and 100° in game).

For those who might be interested, the solution is to enable OC in the CCC, create a profile and edit it as below:

- <Feature name="FanSpeedAlgorithm_0">
<Property name="FanSpeedAlgorithm" value="Manual" />

- <Feature name="FanSpeedPercentTarget_0">
<Property name="Want" value="45" />

Above 45, it gets a bit noisy ...
Result: 45° idle instead of 80° and 70° in game instead of 100°

Well, I have set up the following configuration based on the p5q pro:  case: antec three hundred power supply: corsair vx 450W ram: corsair twin2x 2*1Go 6400 graphics card: Gainward HD4850 512Mo Golden Sample hard drive: 1To Samsung F1 processor: Intel Q9550 motherboard: the ''famous'' p5q pro from Asus  Well, I find myself exactly in the configuration described at the beginning of this topic: everything seems to be working (fans cg/cpu/case active), but the motherboard does not beep at startup and the screen remains black (no access to the bios).  The power indicator on the board is lit (green led), the usb ports are properly powered.  I have tested the cmos reset with the jumper, reset with the battery removed, and finally, I removed all peripherals (hard drive, graphics card, ram) to boot only with motherboard + cpu --> nothing works, still no beep and the screen remains desperately black... I admit I'm feeling pretty low.  Has anyone found a solution in the meantime?  PS: I sent a message regarding the technical support of ldlc, I'm waiting for their response.

The problem is that Asus does not sell its cards with the latest BIOS versions... and I'm convinced that the issue with my P5Q PRO came from that, as the original BIOS does not support processors manufactured on 0.065. Bought from LDLC, I unboxed the motherboard which had never been opened, with a BIOS that was not up to date.  I returned it asking for a refund and bought another P5Q PRO from a builder who had tested and updated the motherboard's BIOS in advance.  It worked right away with the new installation!  I recommend you do the same :)

Thanks for your quick reply!  It's still frustrating to be stuck at this level because of a simple driver update issue!  And I guess it will be hard for me to update them personally if I don't have a Core 2 in 65 at hand...  If there's a clever (really clever) technique to update a motherboard without a processor, I'm interested :D  Otherwise, what motherboard would you recommend instead of this one (even if it's a bit more expensive or a bit less good) for the configuration mentioned above? Because there aren't many assemblers around my area, and I do like LDLC after all (even if I'm going to have the chance to test their after-sales service :( )

The problem is that Asus does not sell its cards with the latest version of the BIOS  It is indeed a big issue with Asus........not to mention the severely buggy BIOS during the launch of new series.....  Otherwise, what motherboard would you recommend instead of this one  Gigabyte is a bit more serious regarding BIOS and compatibility; their products are sold with more advanced and functional BIOS right from the start than Asus.  MSI: beware, depending on the models, they have the same problem as Asus.   But one must recognize that flashing the BIOS on an Asus card is quite simple......but you need a CPU that allows at least starting the configuration......     -- Hello at your place
