Help, my Dell Inspiron won't turn on.

Jean -
 Zebios -
Hello everyone,
my Dell Inspiron 2650 laptop is not working anymore.
After pressing the power button, the fan usually turns on, the optical drive works too, but the screen remains black, nothing. The hard drive doesn't spin.
It seems to me that all the hardware does not have power except for the fan, the optical drive, and the network card.
I have tried removing the hard drive, the battery, the memory, the DVD, but the situation remains the same.
Is there anyone who can help me?
Thank you very much!

    Hello,
    Thank you for your reply,
    Here is my procedure:
After pressing the power button, the fans spin, I can open and close the DVD drive, then insert a disc, the drive spins, so I know at least the drive has power.
If I plug a network cable into another computer, the network card lights up, so I know the network card is also receiving power.
The battery is well charged and can be charged when I plug in the AC adapter.
    All of that seems normal.
But the problem is the hard drive is not spinning (I don’t hear it spinning, the light is not on), the screen remains black, nothing, and the keyboard does not work.
Do you perhaps know what the problem might be?
    Thank you very much!

Mine, as soon as I press the power button hard, the four LEDs light up and turn off immediately, then nothing works. Everything stops. This is a DELL Latitude 110L.

may be a heating issue... I have a Dell Inspiron 8000 and it has the same symptoms after freezing under WinXP and Linux. Press the power button until it starts, it works but it might freeze again. Try changing the thermal paste on your processor’s core because it can dry out.

      Hello
I have an Inspiron 6400 that won't turn on, only the power light is on. It has had this issue several times, and each time it happened when I had to move it!
I found the cure; I give it a good smack with the palm of my hand on the right side (the edge), I specifically mean the right side, the one without the DVD drive. Then I turn it back on..

I actually had great success fixing a friend's Dell that had the same issue.

Even today, the Dell I gave to my son had the same problem and was fixed the same way.

Indeed, I have already encountered a similar problem and the RAM was to blame.

Upon starting the PC, an electrical impulse is sent to all the components. If an error code is returned by one of the components, the PC does not start or runs in vain.

    Hello,

I have a huge problem, I have a Dell Latitude D510, but here's the thing: when I press the power button, it turns on (showing the Dell logo with the loading bar) but after loading, the computer does not respond anymore. I mean, the little cursor under MS-Dos is blinking, but nothing happens.

    Could someone help me??

The worst part of all this is that it's my work computer, so I really don’t want to lose my data, but also, and above all, I want to quickly get out of this situation.

Could someone help me?? I would be very grateful!

Thanks to everyone who offers their help

PS: Sorry for the spelling mistakes, but I am slightly on edge and extremely anxious.

Hello, I have an IBM ThinkPad T22 laptop and it won't turn on; nothing happens when I try to start it. This happened out of the blue; I went on vacation and when I came back, I tried to turn it on with no results. Thank you for helping me determine the cause of this issue.

    Hello,
I have a Dell Inspiron 5100. When I plug it into the power, it starts and emits strange beeping sounds, then it turns on and suddenly a message appears telling me that the machine is plugged in but the system does not support this current and that it is running on battery, whereas the battery is dead. It invites me to enter the BIOS setup to fix the problem, but the problem is that the machine shuts down.

    Hello,
for those who have small issues,
I'm looking to sell my 5150 which was working fine until I could no longer charge it (intermittent connection issue at the motherboard level)
I'm considering taking it apart and recovering the hard drive, etc...
    see you soon

      Hello,
I already left a message; I am interested in your Dell 5150 because my inverter is apparently dead. I connected my Dell Inspiron 5150 to an Inspiron 1100 and I have the same problems, the screen goes black after a few seconds.
Thank you for leaving me a message.

    Thank you, Olivier.
No, no, my computer has never fallen or been hit, etc.; but it’s always when I transport it (carefully, neatly placed in the car, etc.) that it "does this" when I want to use it afterward...

    Hello,
Your procedure is not clear: I suppose you have plugged your laptop into a power source:
    1) Your screen is black, okay: see if you can connect an external monitor to it (graphics port at the back)
    2) How did you check that your optical drive and network card were working: did you try them on another laptop, any lights?
    3) The memory must not be removed!! otherwise, you'll never get anything!
    (essential for the machine)
    4) If the monitor you connected shows the usual displays: it's your screen and unless you change it with a professional or get another laptop, there's no other solution.
    5) If there is nothing: try changing the memory, the processor: if one of the tests works, you know the solution
    Otherwise: more serious the motherboard.

    Hello,

Personally, I have a Dell Latitude laptop and what you describe seems similar to the symptoms of my PC, except that it happens to me two times out of three. Honestly, I don't think it's your hard drive, because otherwise the PC would have thrown you a message like "no system disk" or "boot failure." I tried to figure out what could be causing the problem for mine, but I couldn't find anything, so I only see two possibilities for a black screen: either it's the RAM or it's the graphics card. Given that the latter is integrated into the motherboard, I hope it's the RAM, but it's still quite expensive, like 136 euros for 64 MB of SDRAM. So before anything, try turning your PC on and off until you get an image, and for safety, remove the hard drive; it will still work without it. Good luck!

I think there’s a connector right next to your VGA port (blue) on the back, isn’t there?

    Dear Olivier,
Thank you for your advice, and I inform you that I have already pressed the power button for several minutes, but to no avail.
I will now try with the paste and see what happens.
    Thank you so much.

Hi! I changed the thermal paste on the processor and for now everything is really working well! The computer started up all of a sudden and it seems to be holding up, now for 1 hour!! Accessing the processor is a breeze, it's under the keyboard; it will come out by itself after removing the button cover and a screw in the center of the PC. See you soon!

Hello, I'm having a problem with my Dell Inspiron 5150. The charger seems fine (the light comes on), but when I plug it into the laptop, the lights on it flicker briefly and the laptop is not charging!!!
I can no longer charge my battery...
Is it a loose connection in the male plug or a loose connection in the female socket of the laptop??
If anyone has encountered this problem before...
      Thank you in advance

      Hi,
I don't know if you already have a solution, but I would simply say that it's your charger that's messed up (either its capacitor doesn't hold anymore, or it's discharging). Try, if you can, to open it and then fix it.
      Thanks and see you later

      Thank you Raph,
the problem is that I tried with another Dell charger that works perfectly well and unfortunately for me nothing new...
Could it be a loose connection at the computer's socket??
      thank you

Always with a Dell Inspiron 5150, I manage to start it up, the battery and power lights come on, the hard drive spins, and I can even hear XP starting up.

But the catch is, the screen remains desperately black... nothing to do.

    If anyone has an idea...

      Hi Crayven,
Have you resolved the issue with your Inspiron 5150 that you submitted on September 3rd?
I'm experiencing exactly the same problem today with my Inspiron 9400!!
When starting up, the screen shows "Dell", then "Dell.com", then usually Windows XP, and even the "Welcome" screen of Windows - but then, a black screen! In fact, once or twice, by briefly pressing the power button, or closing/opening the screen, the screen appeared completely normal for barely a second (then black screen)
It started doing this to me some time ago, occasionally (actually when I transported it, even when I hadn’t used it for several hours afterward. But after shutting down/restarting several times, it always ended up working again....
For the past week or two, this has been systematic (and unsolvable) if I didn’t turn it on plugged into the power supply.
And for several months now (I bought this computer in June 2006...), the left side of the screen is so dim that I can’t work on it... (what a waste to invest in a 17"!).
Yesterday, nothing worked, all day... and at 3 AM, it started up normally, and this morning too.... for how long?...

So, if you can help me, or anyone else reading this message, thank you!

It's the cable that connects the computer to the motherboard that is causing the problem.

You mentioned that the problem started after a transport, did your computer fall?

To replace the cable, you often have to open everything up, except for older DELL models.

        Cheers, good luck!

It looks like a driver issue with your graphics card....

However, if your screen is black right from the moment you turn on the PC, it's something else.

Try to see if it's a problem with the cable between your screen and your CPU. To do this, move your screen while the PC is running.

    Dear friend Olivier,
My problem is different from what you think.
My laptop won't turn on. When I press the button, only the fan runs, that's all.
I changed the processor, nothing changed.
Now I wanted to try with the RAM and see what that will give.
Thank you for your assistance during this difficult time, and please keep me updated with any news.

    Hello,

there are converters to connect 2.5 HDDs to a PC as if you were connecting them externally via the USB port:
External USB 2.0 IDE adapter for around 20 euros depending on the model.

Or this less expensive option, but you have to open the PC and connect it in place of a peripheral if all the IDE ports are used:
IDE 44-pin / IDE 40-pin adapter with Molex recovery for about 8 euros.

Hello everyone, I have a small problem with my laptop, it's a Dell Latitude. I turn it on and it says "this computer system, dieseFQRBTOJ-595B, is protected by a password authentication system. You cannot access the data on this computer without the correct password.
Does anyone have any idea and please send it to me, that would be kind. See you soon.
