Screen almost black... HELP

Hello,

I have a very annoying problem, especially since I need my computer for work.
I turn on my computer, everything seems to work normally, but the screen is almost black. You can hardly see what's being displayed, or not enough to use the computer!
It's not a brightness adjustment issue, I've tried to increase it with the keyboard, but nothing works, plus it was working very well, and this problem appeared all of a sudden.
What should I do???

Note that the startup process itself works, as we reach the desktop but can barely distinguish the wallpaper, I can't do anything with my computer.
Configuration: Acer laptop, running Windows XP.

I saw this once on a friend’s almost-new laptop... we sent the laptop to customer service. For now, I don’t see a solution... sorry.

Well, I just had the same problem with my Acer Travelmate and I'm finally doing much better. So for the next ones, before thinking about reinvesting in a new PC, try pressing the little soft button above to the right of the keyboard that allows you to save the screen and switch to sleep mode or not when you close the screen. I had never used it in two and a half years and it was full of dust, but by pressing it with a screwdriver, it was a miracle.

The screen was displaying its most beautiful colors again. Phew!

Does the screen go black before Windows starts?

Yes, it turns black as soon as I press the power button, and it doesn't change.
At first, I can barely see Acer written, and it stays like that...
Additionally, I tried F8 to see if I could launch safe mode, hoping the problem wouldn't occur in that mode. But then a very loud beep appeared as long as I held down the F8 key, and then the boot process got stuck this time...
I am therefore thinking of a possible virus, but what to do??? Help me please.

I think it's the brightness of the screen that increases it, keep me updated

I specify that it is a laptop.
Since then, I had the idea to take out my flashlight, it was laborious but I was able to manage a few operations by illuminating my screen a bit.
I restored my computer to factory settings in order to eliminate any potential underlying virus causing the problem. But the screen is still black!!!!
I'm going to go crazy soon.
In modifying the screen resolution/Advanced/Color management, it tells me:
- Plug and Play screen
- SiSM661MX
- and in the section "color profiles associated with this device," there is nothing, whereas on the computer I am writing this message on, a file is present.
Could this be the source of my problem???
Please HELP ME, I need it for work. I remind you that my screen is so black that you can't see anything on it, even though the system seems to be functioning without issues!

Hello,
It happened to me 2 months ago. Although everything is working well, your screen has given up the ghost. I'm sorry, Teddynapa.
We usually say that the screen of a phone is 70% of its price...

Hello,
Shit, I click on send and I forget the backup solution. While there's still time, connect an external screen because you'll need to configure the connection on the external display from the laptop screen (like I did). Set up the connection definitively since you won't unfortunately have the chance to go back to the laptop screen. I've been rolling like this for almost three months but the day it asks for a reinstall following a crash, you'll be in complete darkness. Another solution: Try to get Acronis True Image. It has the particularity of making a system image and also creating a small partition on the hard drive to easily access its interface with the F11 key during boot. This partition is, of course, untouchable by viruses and crashes that the PC might endure. You access its interface and reinstall everything from the system image that you would have previously created and stored on any medium, external hard drive, DVD, or even on its own partition. Good luck, keep me posted...

Hello,
To respond to the forum, no signs like that before the problem.
I think I might have quickly caught a glimpse of an error message, but I left and when I came back, the screen was almost black... It seems to me it was a message about a software crash... But oh well, I didn’t check, I thought I’d read it when I got back! lol
Anyway, I retrieved my data from an external drive by illuminating my screen with a flashlight, lol
If anyone has any ideas, I’m all ears.
I plan to take it to a repair shop on Tuesday to see what they think.
Thanks to everyone who’s interested in my problem!

Since your screen is dark as soon as Windows starts, the issue is not with Windows.
So if it is a virus, it is located in the BIOS, which, apparently, can happen; but it is extremely rare and I have never seen it.

I agree with drago83, your screen is unfortunately dead. As he advises you, connect an external monitor. This will at least help confirm it.

Hello,

I connected it to another screen to check, but the problem remains the same. This means that my laptop screen is not the issue; I think it's something else. Anyway, I'm taking my laptop to a repair shop this afternoon, we'll see what they say!
Thanks anyway

Hello,
Thank you all for getting involved... So actually, the screen is dead, it's a backlight problem... At least 500 euros without labor to fix it... so it's better to buy another one.. Anyway, I hurried to set up an external screen with a flashlight before the screen completely gives up the ghost! lol... A little trip back to the stone age doesn't hurt... For the next ones, think about the flashlight, it can help save the day!

I have exactly the same issue with my travelmate, so I wanted to set (with the flashlight!) a different default screen, but I can't see (and it's obviously difficult for me to navigate...) how to do it.
Could you please tell me the steps to follow?

Thank you very much in advance.

It's good, I managed to boot from the BIOS.

Thank you.

I'm having the same issue at the moment, except that I know what the problem is. It's a film that disconnects in the laptop hinge. You just need to go to a professional and they will reconnect it for you.

The keyboard brightness keys aren't working... The problem lies elsewhere, probably a virus. Someone needs to have an idea, like how to access safe mode or the BIOS. I've tried but with no success, a beep occurs followed by a complete freeze...
Thank you for your help.

Hello, I had the same problem with my HP a month ago and someone from the forum replied to me and asked me to open the RAM slot under the laptop, take it out and clean the connector with alcohol, which I did, and it worked. Good luck!

Hello
haven't you noticed any spots or small lines on your screen before?

Also, right-click on your screen, go to graphics options, screen adjustment,
and see if it is enabled, then check the brightness setting!

Bonjour, est-ce que pendant le démarrage il y a des bips ? Si oui, va sur (www.commentcamarche.net/pc/bios.php3), il te donne la signification des bips.
