Hello,
I have a problem on a friend's computer, he gave it to me because at startup, after Windows loads, there is a black screen with only the mouse cursor, same in safe mode (there is only "safe mode" in the corners), and the "Last Known Good Configuration" also shows the same

I would like to be able to keep the programs

it's very urgent (before tomorrow if possible, but after that is okay) because he needs it badly

thanks in advance
Configuration: Windows Vista Firefox 3.0.1

    Good evening,

This kind of error is most often caused by a missing system file; ideally, it would be best to have a repair CD for the operating system in use!

    Regards, Bastien .

Don't panic—that must be an error caused by the system. You should perform a first-level upgrade: you need to insert the Windows XP CD (if you are on XP) and restart your PC, configuring the BIOS to boot from the CD-ROM first. Then enter to install XP; it will offer you Repair (R). You should ignore it on the first prompt; the second time it will offer Repair again. This time, type R and it will fix all the damaged modules, and all programs will remain as they are. Good luck and stay brave.

I just did it, I chose "repair" and it completely reinstalled Windows!! All programs will be lost, my friend is going to kill me!

Is there a way to get the programs to work without reinstalling them?

    please help me!!

I tell myself it's a graphics card problem but I'm not sure

by the way he is “reinstalling on himself” (he deleted and reinstalled all the files he considered defective or corrupted)

    Perhaps it's the RAM.

Don't you get beeps at startup?
