Hello,

I have an old TP-Link WiFi key model TL-WN821N version 4 that I am trying to install on my PC running Windows 10.

I went to the TP-Link website and downloaded the driver for Windows according to the model (note that it is version 4, the older one).

In the downloaded file, there is no setup.exe, unlike version 6.

Only the following files: .dat files, then .dll, then .sys.

So there is no file for automatic installation.

I tried to install it manually via the Control Panel of Windows 10 (Control Panel), but the key, even plugged in and blinking, is not recognized.

The driver is compatible: Vista/XP/7/8/8.1 officially, but not Windows 10.

So should I give up? If not, how should I proceed?

    Hello,

exe files, setup files, or others only eventually package the drivers plus a software layer, which will be useful in the case that interests us for configuring the network interface.

The drivers are in the sys file, but they are only intended for up to Windows 8, so if the device manager fails to recognize it even with manual addition...

On the other hand, unless I’m mistaken, this type of machine new, it only costs about ten euros...

    Hello

No need for a third-party driver, Windows Update will find the right one.

      Hello,

That's not what the TP Link site says, which states that the model is compatible with Windows 10 only from V5, but if you say so...

I responded at the same time as you, I still have one that's over ten years old too and works on w11. I suppose it's a v4, I need to check.

Be careful, do not plug it into USB3! Only on a USB 2.

The wireless chip of the key is a Realtek RTL8192CU. And at worst, you need to look for the driver on their site, tp-link is always lagging behind. But normally, there's no need.

    Otherwise:

See here, it was on w10.
