Hello,

I have an external DVD drive that I would like to connect to a Windows 10 PC.
It is not recognized by Windows Explorer nor by a video editing software.
Is there a particular procedure so that it appears just like when you plug in a USB flash drive?

Thank you very much in advance

    Good evening,

Specify the external DVD reader?… Generally, it is equipped with a driver or pilot.

      Hello,

It’s indeed quite rare, a reader that isn’t recognized on its own.

I tried out of curiosity with one I found in my basement and which hasn’t been used for at least 15 years (Windows 10 or 11 didn’t exist then), it started up like a charm.

Start by checking if it’s recognized in the BIOS and in the Device Manager (in the latter case you can try a driver auto-update if it’s in error or check if there’s a specific one on the manufacturer’s site, but well).

Classic causes are the device’s slowness (in fact, it is recognized but it needs time to react when you insert a CD) or those that are not self-powered, which is a pain: the power supplied by the USB port may not be enough, try changing it as many PCs don’t have all USB ports with the same power.
