Unable to reset PC from WinRe

Solved

Hello everyone, this morning I had the joy of discovering a nice blue screen at the startup of my PC.

This is not the first time this has happened, but that's okay, I tell myself that I will do as usual and reset the PC from the Windows repair environment.

The problem is that I do not have access to the "reset this PC" option; I should point out that using a system restore point does not work because, strangely, no point could be found.

I have always formatted my computer from the system repair menu and using the option that allows me to install Windows online, but this is the first time that I can't do anything. I do not have a bootable USB drive with Windows (that'll teach me), anyway, I am not a computer pro and I am therefore coming to you to see if anyone has a solution.

If nothing is possible, I will wait to go to family to get this famous bootable USB drive, but I would like to see, if possible, if my problem can be solved at home. Thank you in advance for any help provided.

    Hello

Have you tried holding down the "shift" key while restarting your PC?

    Best regards

On a computer, if it doesn't fit, we don't force it.

I just tried and no change, the PC starts directly on the blue error screen with options, press enter to try again

Press F1 to access the recovery environment

Press F8 to access startup settings

Press escape to access UEFI firmware settings.

I still have no option to reset the PC in the recovery menu

Can you take a photo of this blue screen?

    Is this the blue screen?

      Hello,

The blue crash screen won't be of much help, and neither will the WinRE mode from the PC itself if it doesn't offer the reset option. I've faced this situation before for reasons I don't understand, not just from the PC environment but also from a installation USB drive.

We can turn the question around in every way, except if it's a particular brand of PC that has a quick access key to factory restore (provided the corresponding partition has been kept and that it's a good idea), there is no other solution than to repair or reinstall Windows from an installation USB drive depending on what is available.

Unless of course the BSOD message suggests a purely hardware-related cause, such as connectivity issues or disk, RAM failure...

Hello, sorry for the delay in responding, I'm sharing screenshots of the blue screens (sorry for the quality, had to do it via phone).

@brucine StatusMember BSOD message? Sorry for my lack of knowledge in IT, but I'm starting to realize that I'm going to have to go through a different method to reinstall Windows unless the PC is dead.

Blue Screen Of Death (because it's not pink), and it shows in this case that the failure is not hardware-related but due to a corruption of the boot system.

It might, with a bit of luck, be resolved without an installation key (but this doesn't change the fact that one should always have one on hand and therefore create one as soon as possible):

Hello again, thank you for the explanation of the BSOD as well as the link. After trying to repair the startup of Windows 10, I faced a failure.

BFSVC ERROR: BCD strings MUI load failure c:\windows\System32\bootstr.dll (2).

BFSVC ERROR: Failed to initialize global state. Status = [c0000001]

I suppose there's nothing left to do except go through a Windows support CD or USB stick.

Try using the same link in <7> to repair the UEFI startup via the command line, but I’m not very optimistic about it.

Aside from a possible hard drive failure, we are indeed going to spend our lives trying to find what is blocking in the boot files or the registry without any guarantee.

We may have a chance of not losing our data (if it’s not backed up elsewhere) if either a USB installation drive (which will then need to be created on another PC using Media Creation Tool) allows us to choose this option, or by cheating: during the installation, we will create a second partition on this disk where we will install Windows and, once restarted, we will attempt to recover the data from the first one before deleting it.

Still an error message, so I will go through the bootable USB method and completely format the PC, it's not a big deal for the data, there was nothing very important on the hard drive. In any case, I want to thank you for the help provided, it is very kind of you to have taken the time to look into my problem.

Wishing you a good end of the evening, thanks again.

    Good evening

If you reinstall without formatting, the Windows installer will detect your previous installation and will create a windows.old folder where it will put everything it found on the disk.

By going into this folder, you will be able to find all your data, but you will have to reinstall all the programs.

    Best regards
