Hello,

After upgrading from an i3 10100 to an i5 10400f, the PC refuses to boot, the CPU and DRAM LEDs are flashing white simultaneously, the CPU was purchased used on Le Bon Coin, and when I put my i3 10100 back, the PC boots normally.

I know that my motherboard is compatible with this CPU, so I don't see where the problem could come from. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.

CPU: i3 10100

RAM: 2X8 GB DDR4 2666 MHz

Motherboard: MSI B460 PRO VDH Wifi

GPU: Quadro RTX A5000

Hello

You need to check if the BIOS version could be the issue, otherwise "the CPU was purchased second-hand on Le Bon Coin".....

Try it on another PC to see, because it's not out of the question that the processor might be faulty.

Thank you for your response flo88, my motherboard's BIOS is up to date, I just tested it on another setup also equipped with an i3 10100 and the problem persists.

Are you talking about the i5? Then it has a problem... get a refund.

Yes, it's fine, I asked the seller for a refund. I bought it second-hand because I was convinced that processors are very reliable components and that there was almost no risk of failure, but that's not really true.. thanks a lot to you, flo88, and good luck on CCM.

It's true that with Intel it's rare, with AMD you have to be more cautious. You weren't lucky.

Hello,

Indeed, I've never seen a processor fail... except for fire and a steamroller.

-- With a new motherboard + new processor, shouldn't we reinstall Windows..? on this new setup... Microsoft thinks it's a copy... and refuses to boot...

-- Before concluding, I'll boot it on a live CD of Linux (Ubuntu for example)... and if it doesn't work there, the seller becomes very suspicious..

That was just a feeling, by the way.

Indeed, I have never seen a processor fail.

Indeed, yes, with a new CPU it’s almost impossible.

But with a used one there is always a risk, especially with AMD, as the pins can be damaged during installation/removal, during transport, etc................ making the processor unusable.
