    Hello,

    We cannot convert it; it will always have the same size, which can be expressed in KB by multiplying by 1024; it can indirectly be reduced in a certain measure, for example if it is a compressed file or image.

    If we want to have this size on a set of files, we can write a batch processing command.

      Hi, old debate, but I’m bringing it up again, apparently it still isn’t printed everywhere: 1 MB is 1000 KB, not 1024 1 MiB is 1024 KiB and 1,048,576 bytes; 1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes. <https:> in short the converter, it’s multiplication by 1000 :-)</https:>

        But in everyday practice, the Mo often stops at the capacity of the disks sold by manufacturers.

        Once installed on the computer, it is obviously binary and we continue to talk about Xo for what is actually Xio.

        Saying it in a general way without specifying, okay, but specifying that 1 MB equals 1024 KB makes my eyes hurt because it's false.

        I didn’t say I disagreed, but Windows is the first to wash its hands of it.

        We’ve again, it seems to me this week, had a complaint that the freshly purchased 32 GB key only shows 29.8 GB in Explorer (I know there isn’t only binary calculation, but also what is lost during partitioning).

        And the same goes for the various Windows scripts; there are plenty, enabling you to calculate the size of something or to convert it into another unit.

        For example, some that rely on PowerShell display not only the numerical result but also the unit, such as GB, even though the manual iterative calculation clearly shows that it is binary.

    I had written “Pouvez-vous me faire savoir comment je peux convertir un fichier MO en KO”. I should have written: “Pouvez-vous me faire savoir comment je peux convertir un fichier Mo7 en Mo5.”

    Thanks to those who answered me. I used “Ilovepdf.” I reduced my file from 7Mo to 5Mo.

      I think it’s a vocabulary issue, because at first reading I would have answered the same as the responses already posted.

      In fact what you’re trying to do is: compress. It’s your last sentence that clarifies everything!

      (convert implies changing something, whereas compression is the same thing in a smaller form)
