Printing impossible since Microsoft Edge Chromium update
Solvedpistouri Posted messages 19008 Registration date Status Contributor Last intervention -
Hello everyone!
I have an "Epson Work Force: WF-2510" printer.
My browser is "Microsoft Edge Chromium."
Since today, I can no longer print pages or documents from this browser.
I just tested with the "Chrome" browser: printing works; everything is fine with Microsoft 365, my PDF files, and my Outlook email.
Could it be due to the latest update of Microsoft Edge Chromium from this weekend?
Maybe there’s a setting to adjust in the browser or the printer?
Thank you in advance for your responses.

Hello everyone,
Edge Fix:
It’s getting clearer, there’s new information, an Edge fix has been released.
It seems that the culprit is the hyphen in the printer name.
If you have "-" in the printer name, it causes the problem; removing the "-" worked. ------------------
Update: for your information, when you rename the printer again with "-", the problem does not recur.
Microsoft has deployed a new Edge browser update today
A new stable version has been released today 109.0.1518.61. It should contain the fix for this issue Open Edge
Click on the three horizontal dots located at the top right.
Click on the line --► Help and feedback
Click on the line --► About Microsoft Edge
The update installs, click 'Restart' to relaunch Edge.
Hello "pistouri"!
Thank you very much for your response.
Indeed, you understood everything.
The print settings launch and run indefinitely.
I have the same version of Microsoft Edge as the one you mentioned.
This is very annoying.
As a temporary solution, I use the following method:
- I go to the page (or document)
- then I press "CTRL" + "SHIFT" + "P": a "Print" box pops up.
I’ll keep you updated, hoping that this issue is quickly resolved by "Microsoft Edge".
See you!
Hello,
Some news on the horizon:
Edge 109: printing issues
Printing issues occur if connected printers have special characters such as umlauts. Most users report that printing freezes and does not work at all. Quick printing is affected as well as regular printing. Reinstalling printer drivers and other configuration changes do not resolve the issue. The Edge 109 printing issue affects printers with special characters
Quick solution
A quick solution is to change the printer name; this should resolve the issue immediately. While changing the name shouldn't be a problem in home environments, it may not be possible or as quick a process in professional environments. Workaround
Some users affected by the problem can work around it by using the Ctrl-Shift-P shortcut to open the system print dialog. Some file types, including PDF documents, can also be downloaded and opened in another viewer for printing. Microsoft has not acknowledged the issue!
Fixes may also land in the beta channel before that.

Hello,
Same on this CCM post ==► Printing via Microsoft Edge
After a test done to print this page with the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+P or by right-clicking on the page and then printing, it doesn't work.
The print settings start up correctly, but it keeps spinning endlessly..............

==► Edge 109.0.1518.55 has been released on a stable channel
Not that stable!
It won't be long before it rises in the Microsoft HUB, if it hasn't already.
The update KB5022282 broke something.
the edge browser which just keeps spinning when I want to print (Seen on Microsoft Forum).
Not a very good idea to suggest a system restore.
KB5022282 Hello, I noticed that after this update my applications such as chrome, firefox have disappeared and also I can no longer use the edge browser properly as it just keeps spinning when I want to print from the browser..please help me I understand that after the last Windows update you had problems; In this case, I recommend trying to restore the system to a date prior to this update; - Press the "Windows + R" keys now type RSTRUI and click "OK". - Click on "Show more restore points" so that more date options for restoration appear, then choose a point with a date prior to this issue; - Go through the screens until the restoration begins and completes. This update was intended for W10 on January 10, 2023.
So on W11 in my case it must be the cumulative update KB5022303.
In this case, these 2 updates could be uninstalled, the ideal is to wait for a fix anyway.

Or perhaps a security update, because for the missing icons, it was Windows Defender that was responsible in the last Windows update patch on Tuesday, January 2023.
I noticed that after this update my applications like Chrome, Firefox disappeared. ==► Windows 11: beware, the latest update of Windows Defender deletes your shortcuts
But it's still the latest update of Microsoft Edge that must be the culprit for the printing issue.
It's not starting well this year for Crosoft:
If on top of that, they go into action:
==► Microsoft plans to lay off about 10,000 employees by the end of March
The American computer group Microsoft announced on Wednesday a series of cost-saving measures, including laying off about 10,000 employees by the end of March, representing just under 5% of its workforce. I'll let you do the math for the total number of Microsoft employees.
Just a drop in the ocean, but a job is still a job; times are tough, very tough...!!!
Economy mode... macroeconomic conditions...!
....
In the upcoming future update, what is fixed for the printer with Edge:
We have resolved an issue that affected printing in landscape mode in Microsoft Edge. The print output was incorrect. This problem occurred when you used Microsoft Defender Application Guard. We still need to have it:
I don't have it:
Good evening again.
So much useful information! Thank you very much.
I have already tried system restore, but without success.
However, I am still on W10; I haven't taken the leap to W11 yet.
See you later.
So far, the only workaround is to enable IE mode for printing web pages. This is, of course, rather mediocre for users…. The procedure:
Open Edge.
Clear everything in the address bar (URL)
Copy and paste --► edge://settings/defaultBrowser
Section ---► Internet Explorer Compatibility
On the line --►Allow reloading of sites in Internet Explorer mode (IE mode)
Select ''Allow''
Click on --► Restart
Good evening everyone!
Thank you very much for your responses.
* "pistouri": your comments are very interesting
For now, I’m sticking with the trick from my second post: "CTRL" + "SHIFT" + "P" (but it's not very practical)
* "Dianthe": you say that this problem might come from the printer.
But I only have this printing issue with "Microsoft Edge".
I tested with "Chrome" and "Firefox": it’s fine.
And also, just to be safe, with my personal "Microsoft 365" files (Word, Excel, Outlook, Photos, etc...): that's also fine.
See you later.
Hello Machiou,
I launched the troubleshooter, you never know.
I had printed a CCM publication with Edge before the Edge 109 update, after that I can't print a web page anymore.
(another CCM publication for example).
Troubleshooter

-------------

--------------------
A problem found, printer is not '' default printer '' (but it is my printer that initiates any print).
I started the fix:

------------------
I launched a print in Edge.
The ''gear'' (small circle in the middle that spins infinitely) is still there.
Good evening "pistouri".
Before sending my first post on "CCM", I had already thought about solving my problem with the "Troubleshooter" and I got the same result as you: without success.
So, no change: the printing issue is still persistent and only with "Microsoft Edge".
See you later.
Another participant CCM with the same mishap ==► EDGE not printing possible!
Redirected this post of course (thanks to those who saw it), hoping for a solution. (NB: Moderation: Soon a grouped topic at this rate, that was my idea yesterday, but not enough participants...)

Hi again "pistouri"!
Thanks for your last post regarding your report in the Microsoft HUB.
I also noticed that another participant had the same issue as mine.
Have a good evening! Looking forward to the next steps...!
Hello "pistouri"!
As agreed, I'm keeping you updated.
First of all, I followed your last advice; namely, I performed the very latest update of Microsoft Edge and apparently, the patch has been implemented.
I conducted several tests and everything seems fine.
So, thank you very much again for your help.
If I may: Congratulations to you, "the champion" of "problem resolution execution"!
See you soon on the forum for more various questions.
(especially since I'm not sure if it's the right time to switch my computer to W10 compatible with W11 or to wait a little longer)
Hello Machiliou,
''Congratulations'' to you for finding a workaround before the final solution, which was simply to update Edge (following feedback in the hub and elsewhere).
don't know if it's the right time to switch my computer to W10 compatible with W11 Start by doing a compatibility test (PC Health Check tool).
==► Windows 11 Compatibility: check if your PC is compatible
Info:
Aside from 10,000 employees from Microsoft who will find themselves on the ice floe, it’s worse at Google
==►Google announces a social plan with the elimination of about 12,000 jobs worldwide
That’s going to be a lot of people on the ice floe!!!
Hi again "pistouri".
True, the last update of Microsoft Edge has resolved the issue.
However, it is still the second-to-last update that caused the printing problem that didn't exist before.
Thank you for your help.
As for my computer running W10; yes, I have already done the compatibility test and it is compatible with W11.
See you later.
If your PC successfully upgrades to W11, you have 10 days to go back.
Note that this deadline can be extended to 60 days (a little trick to do in a CMD command).
But right now, there is a huge bug regarding restoration, some applications are broken, even those from the Microsoft Store.
Microsoft is aware of this issue, and another update will fix it.
Best of luck.
Hi again "pistouri".
OK: I noted your last post concerning W11.
I will return to the CCM forum to ask my questions in a different post than this one.
If there is a bug currently, as you say, I will wait a little longer before upgrading my computer from W10 to W11.
Have a good evening and see you soon!
==► Windows 11: restoring the system may render certain applications unusable
This is therefore a new issue that Microsoft will need to address quickly
To fix the applications, you can try following one of the solutions below: Relaunch the application Reinstall the application from the Microsoft Store or the original source. Install available Windows updates This concerns system restoration and could also relate to reverting to 10 after migration.
Be cautious.

Re... !
Okay for your last post regarding the system restore issue with W11.
So, for now, I’m still on W10 until W11 finds some stability.
Talk soon.
With all these bugs everywhere, and all these lifebuoys from Microsoft, it's better to stay away from switching to W11; it might work, but the opposite is equally true, and assuming you can't go back to W10 or don't like it, only reinstalling W10 or a clean install of W11 will get you out of this mess if the reset fails.

Hello,
I had this problem. Look in the control panel for devices, then find your printer which is probably greyed out, reactivate it by going into the software of its brand. Updates are needed.

And the print dialog box appears.
