Prevent downloading videos on a PC

Hello,

I would like to know if there is a way to block video downloads on a Windows 11 Professional Education laptop.

Indeed, I have set parental controls on the internet box to cut off internet at a certain time and thus limit screen time.

However, my son downloads videos to watch them when the internet is cut off. I would therefore like to find a way to prevent video downloads.

Could someone help me?

    Hello,

    He just needs to be connected via his smartphone's mobile network; you should put restrictions everywhere.

    Or perhaps you have misconfigured the router, or if your son knows how to bypass or transfer the videos from another source.

    But all of this requires skills on your part and technical jargon in order to really help.

    my son doesn’t have a smartphone. He just enjoys having access to the internet during allowed times to download videos that he watches offline

    Okay, it's clearer for me.

    So when he is allowed to use the internet, he downloads streaming videos like Netflix or Amazon locally, and watches the hours not allowed for internet, I think you should prohibit these methods, create a kids mode on these platforms or simply disable the computer along with the internet, it's a shame, there are playful and enriching uses with lots of useful knowledge, it's up to you to find and teach your child by sharing your searches and delving into fascinating and useful topics.

      All solutions are shaky.

      Implement a local security strategy that blocks downloads for a user, but it targets a given browser and a specific download folder, and the user can change it unless their rights prohibit them from modifying browser settings or installing another software (here, a browser).

      Block access to certain sites via the security software, but there are others.

      Always block, via local security policy (or the security software if it allows user-based differentiation), the opening of software used to view these videos; back to the first situation if there are other programs on the computer that can play them or if the user can install other ones.

      In the same vein, we should also be able to block for a user such a type of extension (for example mp4, just as an example) but I’m not sure it can be done other than on a server.

    If you have set your son as the administrator of his PC, that's a first mistake.

    Set yourself as the administrator of the PC with a strong access code, set your son he will no longer be able to do anything on the PC, also add a specially designed for children, see the user guide in French .

    In any case there is no 100% effective solution; it is mainly up to parents to monitor or to remove the PC at certain hours.

    Well, thank you. I’m going to study all of this... Knowing that I’m not a computer pro, I manage, but it remains quite basic.

    I think the locked chest in which we will put all our devices at bedtime will be the simplest in the end... !!!!! In addition to the discussions and information about the harmful effects of time spent on screens and certain content (something I’m already doing, but “keep talking, you interest me” I come off as the annoying mom who didn’t understand anything!!!
