PC no longer shuts down by itself after installing Ubuntu

Hello,

I installed Ubuntu on my PC years ago, out of curiosity, but I uninstalled it fairly quickly.

Since then, my PC won't turn off by itself anymore, despite several complete resets. Windows shuts down, the screen goes black, but the little power light on the side of the PC stays on and there's a faint noise that sounds like a fan.

Since then, I've been searching for solutions online from time to time, but with no success.

This is the first time I'm posting this issue on a forum, hoping someone might provide me with either solutions or at least new avenues for investigation.

Recently, I found that instead of forcing a shutdown by holding down the power button, if I launch a restart followed immediately by a normal shutdown, it works every time!

Thank you.

    Hello

Can you post a screenshot of the disk manager, to try to see if a Linux partition might be stuck

    - your PC contains a recovery partition with which you "could" restore the PC to factory settings

    - you cannot "uninstall" Linux, it's not software but an operating system

    Hello Redbart

    Thank you for your response.

What you told me about the recovery partition that I "could" use to restore the PC to factory settings is not unknown to me. I had read about it and looked for how to do it, but I don't think I was successful (I can’t remember why, as I tackled this problem quite some time ago).

The function key assigned to this function is certainly described on the manufacturer's website, but... it's better to have a new Windows 10 than one loaded with the manufacturer's bloatware.

Are you sure you are activating shutdown with this action or rather sleep?

I'm also concerned that Linux may have placed an option in the boot file.

    Hello Redbart,

I had figured out how to perform a reset (complete or partial) as well as a factory reset, but as I mentioned, I believe I remember that the second solution did not work. And, in any case, even if it had worked, the desired result has not been achieved since the problem is still there...

The shutdown immediately after a restart seems complete to me. And, with my battery barely lasting an hour, when it doesn't shut down, I find it drained when it's not the case!

In any case, what is certain is that this problem has been ongoing since the installation of Ubuntu. But I hadn't read any warnings about it; otherwise, I wouldn't have attempted it.

After all these years of my computer running like this, I've resigned myself to it. I would have just been interested in knowing a bit more out of curiosity, but too bad, I'll leave it at that, my computer knowledge being quite limited, like most users.

    Thank you for these insights.
