Hello everyone,
I have a small Medion setup:
Windows 10 Home 64
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6402P CPU @ 2.80GHz, 2808 MHz, 4 core(s)
Motherboard H110H4-EM
BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. 110EMW0X.105, 12-01-18
SMBIOS Version 3.0
Graphics Card NVIDIA GTX 750 TI
1 x RAM 8Gb
Basic Medion PC power supply 350w
All components are up to date, and I also updated the BIOS version from 2016 to 2018.
In the configuration above, everything works fine.
When I replace the GTX 750 TI graphics card with a GTX 1660 S, properly inserted and connected to a PCIe power pin, the PC does not start normally, emits 5 short beeps, and the screen stays black. I force the shutdown using the power button. If I switch back to the GTX 750 TI, the PC works normally again.
I uninstalled the drivers before changing the card, and it's the same.
I think the power supply might be too weak, but I'm not an expert; can a weak power supply cause this kind of issue? Like nothing starting?
I just wanted to improve the rendering and smoothness by replacing the graphics card.
I've read so much that I no longer know what to do besides checking the PC's power supply.
I can't test the new card on another PC because I don't have one.
Thanks in advance for any new ideas...

Hi
The power supply is one possibility, but the beeps are emitted by the motherboard and 5 beeps clearly indicate an anomaly detected by the BIOS regarding the graphics card: https://img-19.ccm2.net/DsDXhA6QiPUE5sW9Hc_svLUe6Qo=/fa9ed5fbccea42378da596c6d72f9616/ccm-faq/3p0MbENy-tableau.png
So your 1660 is the problem… after that, could it be the power supply? Maybe, but it shouldn't prevent the PC from starting in general. If the power supply is insufficient, you would only notice it when the graphics card is under full load (like crashing in the middle of a game, for example).
Here, I think it’s either a compatibility issue between the motherboard and the 1660 (which is always possible with branded PCs) or the 1660 has a real problem, in which case it would be good to test it on another setup…
Also check once again that it is properly seated (don't hesitate to push hard) and are you using the correct power connector?

Hello,
Thank you for your response, I think it's well set up and I can see its fan spinning; I'm pushing quite hard.
Yes, it would be good to be able to test it on another machine, but since I don't have one, I have to wait to do it at someone else's place, but we can't go out right now.
I should receive a 650W power supply soon to replace the 350W one; we'll see if that solves the problem...
On the 1660, there is an 8-pin connector, but this type of connector is not present in the case. So I'm using a SATA to 8-pin converter...
The new power supply will have a direct 8-pin connector.
Thank you. -
Hello,
New power supply received this morning, I replaced it and bingo, no beeping and a nice image is displayed. After the update, I will be able to enjoy my new GTX1660S.
So the power supply was indeed the cause of the black screen and the 5 beeps at startup.
Thank you for your help and continued success.
