Disabling Graphics Card - Black Screen

Hello,

I just acquired an ASUS N56V laptop. It is equipped with a Nvidia GeForce GT 650M graphics card and an integrated Intel HD 4000 graphics card.

The resolution was very poor, and my computer explained that the integrated card was prevailing.

I went to Control Panel / Device Manager / Graphics Cards and saw both cards, and both seemed to be enabled, so I disabled my Intel HD 4000 card.

Now the screen is constantly black.

I can't get into safe mode (at startup, I tried all the F1, 2 ... 9 keys) and I do not have a Windows installation CD provided.

Thank you for your help.

Hello,

Thank you for your response. I managed to get by by connecting the computer via HDMI to a TV, and the other graphics card worked.

However, I am still very disappointed with the computer's resolution: 1366 x 768. I probably need to get used to it.

Hello Alex, I did the same manipulation as you, but when I plug my laptop into HDMI, the screen stays black. Do you have a solution?

Good evening!

I have exactly the same issue as Alex.

For the little story, my computer took a hit this morning and since the screen wasn't working anymore, I still managed to connect it with a VGA cable to another computer.

BUT, I had the brilliant idea of following a friend's advice to disable one of my two graphics cards (Intel HD Graphic Family) to keep only the NVIDIA.
After that, black screen.

I tried connecting with an HDMI cable hoping that the other card would take over, but nothing at all...

I also tried F8 and F2 at startup to access the BIOS, but that didn't work...
I even went as far as disassembling my computer and disconnecting and reconnecting the motherboard battery.

Anyway, I really don't know what to do anymore, can someone help me?
I'm in the middle of exams, I can't even access my work.
And I just realized that my insurance wouldn't cover this...

Thank you for your help.

Hello,

Do you still have access to the BIOS?!?

If not, you can try a CMOS clear to reset the BIOS values to default...

Reinstall everything from the beginning, uninstall all that is related to your graphics card and remove your graphics card and do this

1) Disable the original chipset from the Device Manager.
Computer>>system properties>>Device Manager>>graphics card and right-click on your chipset and disable it (Note that I said disable and not uninstall)

2) Turn off the PC and unplug it from the power source

3) Install the graphics card and connect your VGA cable to your graphics card (the screen cable)

4) Turn on the PC and install the drivers, etc. provided on the CD

5) Have fun

I did it today on a new graphics card and it's working great
