Free Alternative to Quicken/Money Solved

Question

Hello, I saw on your site several replacement software for Quicken 2016 Cash Manager:

Not being a company, but just an individual who wants to have long-term tracking of my banking operations, my question is this:
Which of all these software can:
A) recognize, accept, potentially transpose and use Quicken files.
B) connect to banks and download data. (in what type of files)
C) potentially be free, or not require payment monthly, annually, or every 2 to 3 years.

Hello;

I suggest you install MsMoney 2005 >> See this link ....Completely free now, admittedly old but still used by many people today.

However, I'm not sure if you can recover your last Quicken Money backup that is in Qif format from memory ...but you can always try by clicking on the File tab (top left) >> Import >> Recover accounts ....... and in the window that opens ... you choose Qif Format >> then go find your backup and import ..... and there I don't know if it works or not because I've never used Quicken Money.

Hello,
for Quicken files, they are .QDF
I tried installing Microsoft Money 2005, but I keep getting this message & it constantly tells me to reinstall it:
One of the Money components (taxCDN.tbl) is missing or damaged. You should reinstall Money to resolve this issue.

EDIT: p.s.: I just saw that in Quicken, I can EXPORT each of my bank accounts (and not the entire file) to .QIF
I will test it for Bankperfect.

Hello;

In principle, MsMoney installs easily... but there may be a conflict with the already installed version of Quicken... To be sure, you would need to uninstall it, but if you want to recover your Quicken backup... that's a no-go because MsMoney won't be able to retrieve it if its extension is QDF!
If you really want to install MsMoney, you would need to do as mentioned above, which means you'll have to "mourn" your old backup and start with MsMoney from scratch... Is it worth it? It's up to you to decide...

As for the other solution, I'm not sure it will accept taking over from Quicken because of its QDF extension, which is unfortunately incompatible.
I'm looking into it, and if I have any updates, I'll come back here...

Bankperfect accepts .QIF files, but it doesn't output quite as I would like, and I lose some data over time & my balance is very different...
Moreover, it doesn't seem possible to connect directly to the bank.

As previously written and on my screenshot above... MsMoney should also import a QIF file!
In your last message, you wrote that Quicken had a QDF backup extension and not QIF??

As for the bank connection, I just saw that you are located in Canada, and that might be the issue... because in France we don't have this problem???

I will try to find a version of Quicken and install it on one of my machines and will keep you informed

With Quicken, I can export .QIF files, but for each account separately; for example: checking, credit card, savings, etc.
Bankperfect accepts these .QIF files, but the output isn't quite as I would like, and I lose some data over time & my balance is very different...

Unfortunately, I can't find a site to download Quicken Money and can't try it ....
However, I suggest you check out the Forum dedicated to Bankperfect where you might find answers to your questions ...
I'm pretty sure that Bankperfect should be compatible with Quicken, but I don't know all the ins and outs of these two software programs as I don't use them .. I simply tried Bankperfect one day and it is perfectly compatible with MsMoney

I just found a download for "Money Plus Sunset Deluxe" version 17 on the Microsoft website, released in 2010, in English, but it works.
I can import the .QiF file that I saved earlier, and it contains all my accounts...
BUT... if I go by what is written in the amounts, I'm mega rich in some accounts, and I'm in debt in accounts that I hardly use. Furthermore, no date appears.
Right now, I'm looking for where to click to enter my bank data and then where to click to access it????

P.S.: I just noticed that this version of Money can directly convert backup files from Quicken... I will run some tests and get back to you.

I was familiar with this software but hadn't thought of it ...
What's surprising is that the amounts from your backup are different from this one ... Maybe a currency issue or something else ...

In my opinion, the ideal would be to run simulations with 1 or 2 fictitious accounts including 4 or 5 transactions and check the amounts ...

edit: I still need to find out where and how to set up the software to connect to my bank.
In the worst case, once I know how, I will lose all my old transactions from a few years, but my bank allows me to download the last 18 months for Microsoft Money. So it wouldn't be so bad, because I still have Quicken available on my computer after the end of May, but without a bank connection, so my data remains accessible.

I finally found out how to connect, but it was quite a detour, as no bank appears in the list of institutions, and it tells me in red that the site is temporarily unavailable; I assume this software is not up to date :)
I need to go to "manage online service"
then click on my bank
then click on "view contact information"
and finally in the internet link that I entered manually, click on the "GO TO" button

it will be easier to go there directly via a browser.

for the other bank that has my credit card, there is a problem with the data transfers; only part of it is downloaded, and moreover, month 04 (April) changes to year 2004.

In principle, and this is how it works for us, you just need to go to your bank's website, log in, and there's a download option ...and everything is fine and easier than using the software!

The problem with downloading directly from the bank is that you can only download once a day for the same period, and if there are issues, that's it!
Personally, I do this manually and have no problems, and it allows for verification at the same time!

Finally, with "Microsoft Money" I am left with the last problem:

I think I will stop looking and potentially not keep this credit card account updated.

Regarding the downloading issue for the credit card account owner, I think the best solution would be the one suggested above... namely manual updates, as if the problem comes from the bank... I don't think there's a solution ??

When I write "manual updates", I am not referring to a download but to updates by comparing the transactions made on your bank account and on MsMoney so that everything is synchronized... and that the totals are correct!
