Replace MS MONEY Solved

Question

Hello,

I have been using Money 2003 for almost 10 years, and my .MNY file contains the history of my accounts for this entire period.
I am looking to switch to a different software to avoid compatibility issues with Money and new operating systems (Win 8 and others).
I have done a lot of research online, but none have highlighted a solution that simultaneously meets the following needs:
- being able to recover my .MNY data file and ensuring a perfect import (especially regarding transfers between accounts). I do not want to tear my hair out correcting the side effects of 10 years of history by hand.
- managing not only bank accounts but also investment accounts
- being able to download the prices of the investments listed in my investment accounts
- having a Scheduling function, like in Money, which allows recording forecasts for transactions, either one-time or recurring.

As for the rest, I won't elaborate too much, as I believe all the software names mentioned online have more or less the classic features of Money.

MS Bank Accounts 9.6 allows you to seamlessly replace Microsoft Money. Additionally, it is now possible to retrieve your Money data directly with a tool that avoids the tedious step of the infamous QIF files.

In fact, there are really 2 topics:
- of course in the short term, one of the solutions, and the only one given your reply, is to find a way to extend Money's lifespan by switching to a different OS.
- however, in the long term, it's clear that sooner or later, Money will no longer be compatible with the new OSs. All it takes is for MS to stop releasing a patch and we will be screwed.

Now, the specificity of Money (and any finance software) is that it builds up a history of banking data, and it's precisely the duration of this history that makes its use interesting. Personally, I use Money a lot to observe the evolution of my spending over time.

So my idea is not to wait until I'm backed against a wall to find a replacement.

But in the meantime, of course there is the 2005 patch. However, I still can't understand if the compatibility is complete, thanks to this patch between MS MONEY 2003 and Win 8 (some posts suggest that importing stock prices no longer works but I'm not sure).

I think I should try it on a friend's PC, which is already on Win8, as long as my PC running XP still holds up, but I feel it's going to give out soon.
I will keep this post open and close the other one.

I tested on a friend's computer running Windows 7. I successfully installed Money 2003 on it.
I opened my MNY file with it.

Everything went smoothly, which confirms that Money 2003 works well with Windows 7. No need for patches or any other tweaks.
(Caveat: I only opened my MNY file, which opened correctly. I did not attempt to work with it or download stock quotes. So my compatibility test is quite basic. I mainly wanted to ensure that Windows wouldn't reject me during the installation).

By the way, my friend showed me a feature of Windows 7 that I wasn't aware of: the ability to run a program in "Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode." To do this, you need to right-click on the file, then select "properties" and check the "XP compatibility mode" box. I haven't tested it.

I just switched to Windows 8 (unfortunately) ... I had MoneySunset (the latest Money) and, under W8 ... Money doesn't work anymore ... I couldn't find anything on the net to make it work ...
If anyone knows how to get it working or knows a replacement, especially for the scheduling aspect ...

well, here it is, for the past 3 days, Money 2005 has no longer been retrieving stock prices, regardless of the OS used. XP W7 W8 64bit
You can extend it by entering the prices manually but still....
This time, we need to find a replacement, and Marionet34's question is very relevant.
Who has an idea besides Crocodile15's bank accounts?

According to what I understood, Bank Account does not allow you to retrieve stock prices.
For my part, I use Money 2003 which works perfectly so far, including for retrieving stock prices. But as I mentioned earlier, I fear that one day the light will go out...

Can someone confirm that Money, whether it's 2003, 2005, patched or not, is still able to import stock market data??? (today on July 4, 2013)??? It's not working anymore on my two OS: W7 64-bit PRO and WIN 8 64-bit.
I confirm that the import was working perfectly last week.
Also, please confirm (which I suspected since I downloaded it yesterday) that Bank Account does not provide this function, so it certainly cannot replace Money.
The question raised by Crocodile 15 is still relevant.

I successfully imported to Money 2003 last night.
Maybe you have some exotic investments that Money would stop tracking? That has happened to me before.
For diagnostic purposes, check what happens with a regular stock.

For Clodius, I only have some very traditional CAC 40 shares.
The lack of repatriation of the prices is entirely consistent with what I have been noticing since this week: it’s not working anymore...
Furthermore, in the "refresh prices" menu, when I click on "Refresh prices immediately": I get a lovely pop-up that arrives and tells me:
“The following information concerns the expiration of features that occurred 884 days ago, on 01/01/2011. One or more features of Microsoft Money have expired. Please update your online file for more information.” Of course, the update doesn't yield anything.
It seems clear to me, we were even lucky that this feature took 884 days to expire!
For Noftal, what OS are you using? Can you confirm that 2003 was never updated? That you are using W7 OR WIN 8 and it continues to function? (I'm talking about the automatic update of stock prices obviously)

I just did an automatic update of the courses and it still works.
I am using Money 2003 on Win7 without any patches or anything.
That said, jmarion3's link makes me fear a possible shutdown soon. Maybe the service shutdown is not necessarily synchronized between the different versions of Money. I notice that those who have a download issue do not have the same version as mine.

That's exactly my opinion! For now, and in the meantime, I print my list at the end of the day and I... manually enter the price of each item! If anyone has a better solution, I'm all ears.

To sum up, the only thing that would drive us to leave MS Money is Microsoft's abandonment of stock quote downloads.

My question may be naïve: if the Money program points to a specific URL (I believe it's MSN) to obtain stock quotes, and if that site is no longer operational, is there no way to tinker with the Money program files to replace the URL of that site with another that works (Yahoo Finance, for example)?

Hello everyone,  I have also been managing all my accounts, investments, and assets for myself and my wife for over 15 years using Money (currently version 2005 - 14.0.80.2017 on Win 7 /64 bits) for our personal activities, our real estate rentals, and even an association... Therefore, it is impossible for me to consider any migration at this time if I cannot retrieve 15 years of activities...  I am also partially stuck since 01/07/2013: all my stock investments (UCITS) are still updating, but all my indices (CAC 40, CAC Mid & Small, CAC Mid 60...) stopped on 01/07/2013...  The idea of contributing to thank anyone who can modify the link that retrieves stock quotes through a patch or something else doesn't scare me... Open to volunteers.  A small glimmer of hope in the short term: 1. for my part, only the index quotes are blocked, which means that the essential things for me are still working... 2. it seems to me that this had happened to me last year at the same time (early summer), and a few weeks later, everything started working again, recovering the lost dates in the process...  So let’s be crazy and hope that we’ll get a reprieve!

Hello, I downloaded Gesfine on January 23, 2013. By the evening of January 31, I had taken back my entire portfolio (without the history). The overall system is very comprehensive for managing securities, especially with currency management, all in an interactive manner. The developer is very responsive, and the forum is well-stocked with relevant questions and answers that are always well-written. Regarding ordinary accounts and other investments, everything works well; there are still plenty of reports to develop to reach the level of Money.

I also have Money2005, I'm looking for software or a replacement, just as user-friendly and functional, like Sunset Deluxe that can meet my needs. The big problem with Money is that it is impossible to create a new budget; unfortunately, between the schedule, the budget, and the monthly or annual statement, there seems to be a glitch. I may have just found a solution with the software from a former MS Money developer at this address //gaiersoftware.com. It allows you to keep Money.
It is in English, I just tested it, not everything works, but it's progress.
Strangely, my OPCMs are being updated without modification in Money, although with a two-day delay.
On the other hand, it doesn't work for stocks; it seems that the titles need to be renamed to match the new MSN Money site.
You also need to run the program as an administrator.
My setup: Money 2005 and Windows 8.1

Good evening, Do you have another idea, please? I removed, by editing with NotePad++, the character "?" from the first line of the OFX file. ?OFXHEADER:100 DATA:OFXSGML ... But unfortunately, MSMONEY still refuses to import the file, to my great despair. I have been using MONEY for over 15 years and I am furious with THE POST BANK.
