It requires an external power supply of 5 volts and 12 volts, like the Molex connector next to it (as for hard drives); these voltages can be taken from a tower, from the power supply outputs..

Your SATA / USB cable allows you to connect it directly to the USB port of the PC, only for data bus, it is not intended to power this drive with USB voltage.

If you want to make it an external and standalone case, you will need a 5 volts/2 Amperes and 12 volts/2.5 Amperes power supply in the same unit.

Only external enclosures for 3.5" hard drives do that... and it is not guaranteed that you will be able to fit it into the box.

yes, this power supply block is good with both voltages (12V and 5V), it seems that you have the adapter to convert the molex to SATA and also the interface to connect to the DVD drive in IDE or SATA.

I also have this kind of kit to recover data from hard drives, it’s convenient but it creates a lot of cables.

Yes, it does create some cables, I will still see if I can fit it in a tower, I have another external Lightscribe burner connected via USB but it scratches the image side if I do 2 or 3 passes.
