Storex D522 Multimedia Hard Drive Issue

Hello
I've had a Storex D522 multimedia hard drive for quite a while
I wanted to watch a movie but my TV no longer recognizes it
I haven't changed anything, it’s far from full with 986 GB available out of 1.5 TB.
It’s not making any unusual noises, it works on my computer, I've checked the cables!
I'm feeling lost right now
Thank you for your help

Hello,

Does your hard drive light up, does it spin when you connect it to the TV? You should check if the drive works properly on another TV. Is another device (like another hard drive, USB stick, etc.) recognized by the TV? The answers to these questions should give us some leads to follow...

What is the format of the drive?

You could also run a diagnostic using specialized software to check the health status of the HDD, just in case: https://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/39851-disque-dur-etat-de-sante-et-garantie

Best regards,

hello
When starting up, it works. Actually, it works perfectly on my PC; but not on the TV anymore.
I just tested it on another TV both via HDMI and USB, no luck. I tested the HDMI cable on my console and it works, so I rule out the possibility of a faulty cable. Everything connected to the TV works (Orange box, home cinema, and the console... except for the external drive)
its format is NFTS, and I’m actually formatting it in the same format right now.
For the diagnosis, I will do it later because the formatting procedure has started. But it's slow!
I will test by copying one file onto the external drive once the formatting is finished
and if it still doesn't work, I will run the diagnosis.
Thank you for your help!

It’s really strange that it doesn’t work on another TV...
I assume that the NTFS format is well supported, if you used it before with the TV in that same format... Just check the supported file systems. It’s true that reformatting might be a good idea. Any improvements since?
Do you have time to perform the diagnosis?
Have you tried a firmware update?

Hello
so I took the test, which shows no issues
when I dig a little deeper I have a usb.inf error (if I’m not mistaken in the spelling)
regarding the update, I wanted to do it, I copied the file to the hard drive but it operates from a TV screen and since I can only read photos via the USB port of my TV and not videos or programs it’s impossible.
the formatting didn’t bring anything more, would there be a difference if I do a long format compared to a quick format?

For my other TV, it plays videos via USB stick and I believe it's the same format nfts? But the hard drive doesn’t work either via USB or HDMI (but that was before formatting...)

I don't think there would be a difference if you do a long format... Have you tried formatting the HDD to FAT32 to see if that helps?
As for the cable, even if it works with other devices, it would be good to test another cable... Are you using a hub, what is the length of the cable?
And you told me that the drive lights up when you connect it to the TV, right?
I didn't quite understand your explanations about the update, nor the error you're getting... Could you provide more details?
Happy Friday:)

Good evening
so I haven't tried to format it to fat32 yet; I'll give it a go tomorrow
regarding the update issue, let me explain: I download it on the PC then copy the file to the HDD. To execute the update, I need to connect the HDD to the TV and launch it from the TV screen. This operation cannot be done on PC (according to the supplier's manual)
I tested the device with another HDMI cable but that doesn’t work either. As for the length, I’d say about 1m at a glance.
thank you for your help

Thank you for your reply, muguet76.
I assume you are talking about the update of the HDD. I don’t know the specifications of your TV, but you could also try updating its software (if applicable).

We should check if reformatting to FAT32 will work, and maybe try with a shorter cable. If nothing works, I would recommend contacting the manufacturer's support to see if they can provide you with another solution, or possibly replace the product if it's still under warranty.

Hello
so the formatting to FAT32 didn't yield anything more, unfortunately!
as for the warranty, it has expired for quite some time now!
I don't know what to do anymore?

muguet76, it's a shame :/
I have to admit that I'm out of ideas right now...
My advice would be to reach out to the manufacturer's support. Let's hope they can offer you solutions that we haven't thought of yet!
