Hello,
Problem explanation:
For the past 2 days, I have been unable to unlock my SIM card. When I turn on my Xperia Z3 and enter my PIN code, the message "Unlocking SIM card" appears and spins indefinitely. After several attempts, the phone ignores the SIM card - or unlocks it, I can't verify - and displays the pattern unlock screen. Consequently, I have no network, nor 3G and 4G. I would like to clarify that my SIM card is not blocked and that it is indeed the PIN code that is requested, not the PUK code.
The problem appeared when I accidentally restarted my phone while it was in Ultra Stamina mode. Once restarted, the SIM card would no longer unlock. I'm not sure if it's related, but it's the only explanation I have found. I turned off the phone, removed and reinserted the SIM card, and it worked. But the problem reappeared the next day.
I noticed a bug (or so I think), airplane mode is not activated, the icon does not appear in the notification bar and the box is not checked in the settings. However, when I press and hold the power button (as if to turn off the phone), it states that airplane mode is activated. When I try to disable it, airplane mode switches to "disabled" in the box of the menu to turn off the phone, and the box grays out, so I can no longer click on it. If I activate airplane mode in the settings, the icon appears in the notification bar, but the menu to turn off the phone indicates the opposite. Again, I am not sure if this is the cause of the problem.
When I insert or remove the SIM card, the phone detects it.
My phone has never fallen, is not damaged, and has never gotten wet. It works perfectly. The applications, Wi-Fi, and everything else are still working perfectly. It is locked to SFR. It is not rooted or anything. The problem happened overnight.
Solutions tried:
1. As I described above, I tried removing and reinserting the SIM card, which only worked once.
2. I have restarted and turned off the phone several times.
3. I tried activating/deactivating airplane mode.
4. I tried to start the phone, with the SIM card inside, in airplane mode, in stamina mode, and in ultra stamina mode.
5. I tried to activate/deactivate airplane mode several times via the "power" button before entering my PIN code and with the SIM card in the phone.
6. In the "Mobile networks" settings, when I try to find a service provider, the phone seems to load endlessly.
7. I put my SIM card in another phone, the PIN works, the card unlocks normally, and I have network.
8. I blocked the SIM card by entering a false PIN code 3 times, then entered the PUK code and changed my PIN code.
9. I reset the phone and deleted all my data (after a backup of course).
10. I fiddled with the "Service Menu", which can be accessed by entering the combination “*#*#7378423#*#*” on the call keypad. There is a section "Antenna RX Diversity" in the "Service tests" tab. From what I understand, this corresponds to the network antennas of the phone. When I try to change a parameter, an error appears.
11. I restored the phone to factory settings via the "Sony PC Companion" software, with no results.
12. I attempted safe mode, unsuccessfully.
13. Sometimes the SIM card seems to unlock on the first try, except that there is still no network.
After trying all these solutions, nothing worked. I checked several sites and found no help for my case. It seems to me that someone mentioned that it could be due to corrupted files, but I don't know more. Thinking that my issue was caused by a software bug, I thought that by resetting everything, the SIM card would work.
I have included some screenshots to give you as many details as possible. I hope my post hasn't been too long and boring to read. I'm counting on your help, I really don't know what to do! I don't have much knowledge about smartphones. Thank you in advance for your responses! :)

After flashing a stock ROM from Sony, the IMEI does not appear right away and the "Service Menu" is only accessible after about thirty seconds.
I went to SFR (the phone originally came from them) to find out whether the second-hand phone I bought was locked or not. Keen to maintain their (bad?) reputation, an SFR advisor tried to display the IMEI number, but to no avail. I told him it took a little while to show up, but he preferred to tell me, without checking their database, that the phone was indeed locked. Even after he saw the IMEI magically reappear, he stuck to his claim.
Not being sure of what he had just told me, I still went to allopsm (a national repairer authorized by many brands, including Sony). I was greeted by a man in a white coat, apparently very knowledgeable about smartphones. Then his "colleague" (who didn't look professional at all) arrived and took over. The latter seemed to think he was in a car workshop and forced my Z3 to insert a SIM card. In the process, he chipped the paint. To make matters worse, he literally wedged my phone into my case, without even paying attention to the orientation or the buttons that were sticking out. All this just to tell me to call SFR so they could check in their database whether the phone was locked or not.
So I called SFR and provided them with my IMEI. The result: the phone is not locked and has never been reported lost or stolen. I still believe it's purely a software issue (given the bug with airplane mode), but I see no other choice than to send it back as soon as possible in order to benefit from the warranty.

I have exactly the same problem. I thought it was a defective SIM card, so I had my SIM changed through Sosh, but the problem persists.
I submerged my phone in water, after checking that the ports were properly sealed, to try the phone underwater... it stayed for 2 minutes at most while taking some pictures... I wiped it down, etc... Nothing to report. It was late in the evening that I realized I had no signal anymore. After many manipulations, which you also mentioned in your description, I decided to report the incident to my insurance, which I pay for as an option with my plan.
I’m waiting for a response...
On the Sony forum, I found several people complaining about this issue; it seems to be a fairly common manufacturing defect, in any case, we’re not isolated cases!
