Hello,

My recent laptop has the left Ctrl key that works intermittently (the right Ctrl key always works). The problem stops either spontaneously or by running "sfc /scannow" in the command prompt. In Device Manager I updated the keyboard driver, then disabled the keyboard. I restarted. Nothing helps.

Could you please help me?

    Hello,

It all depends on what you mean by "recent." There is no possibility to repair a mechanical failure without disassembly and replacement of the defective part, which on a laptop cannot be done without a certain level of expertise.

Moreover, you do not specify whether it is new hardware, refurbished, or second-hand.

For the first category, you should rely on the warranty rather than trying to repair new equipment; for the others, put it in after-sales service.

If one chooses to repair this unknown computer themselves, one can find videos showing how to disassemble the keyboard, which is only advisable for experienced DIYers.

    Thank you very much.

My laptop, which I bought new, is still under warranty. But I will see if someone says something else because it scares me (I thought it was a software failure and not a hardware one).

At a distance, it’s impossible to determine the nature of the failure, but if it is a software failure, repairing the system files should fix it (except if it recurs during a Windows Update). That said, the right CTRL key is equivalent to the left one, even though I understand that this changes habits. Before having a Service Center check it, connect an external USB keyboard. If the problem does not occur, the fault is hardware-related and to be investigated. You can also try restoring to an earlier restore point prior to the incident (knowing that Windows updates would be rolled back before the next Windows Update). see: https://www.malekal.com/reparer-windows10-sans-perte-donnees/ https://www.malekal.com/comment-reparer-windows-11-sans-perte-de-donnees/
