PIN code issue without SIM card

Hello,
I gave a mobile phone to my granddaughter. It is broken, so she just sent it back to me for repair. I called the phone brand, which offered to do a "repair" over the phone, but my granddaughter doesn’t remember her PIN code. The SIM card has been removed. I even tried entering 0000, but it said incorrect code.
Could you please tell me how I can proceed?

    I just called Samsung, the problem is resolved. The operator I just spoke with gave me an address for repairs, so I no longer need the PIN code. Phew!
