Stuck VHS Tape

Hello, today I wanted to watch The Man Who Fell to Earth on the family VCR. When I put the tape in, the VCR ejected it just as quickly. I tried a second time, the tape stayed inside but the VCR wouldn’t play it. So I gave up, pressed the eject button but while holding the tape with my fingertips I realized it was stuck, even starting to unravel. After many restarts of the VCR using the off button, the tape is inside the VCR. I unplugged it so that the VCR would stay off. I want to point out that the last time the VCR was on was two years ago and I haven’t inserted a tape into a VCR for over four years, so I’m a novice.
Please how can I remove the tape without damaging it?
