Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible to format an IDE hard drive that already has XP from an old PC and how to place it in the PC: Primary and Slave.

I would like to mention that I have an XP CD. Thank you in advance.

Hello...

You're mixing everything up....!
If you want to format it, you can enslave it on a machine, no need for a CD of anything...
If you want to install XP while formatting it, that's different....
Specify what you want to do, the hardware you have, what you know how to do..... that will avoid the hassles....! ;)

Best regards,

Hello,
I do not wish to install Windows XP or anything else on this hard drive.
I simply want to format the disk so I can use it as a data drive in another PC running Windows 7. I have a PC running W7 on an AM3 platform, a Gigabyte motherboard with SATA and IDE ports. For the formatting, I will be using another PC running XP with only IDE ports.

Well... since your PC has IDE ports and the HDD is IDE, you install it, then you open "computer," right-click on the HDD in question, and select "format"...

No problem... but it should go well... however, it needs to be connected "cold," meaning the machine should be off and unplugged...!

I managed to format the HDD using the software "FAT32Format" because Windows only offered me the NTFS format.
Thank you all.
