Difficult PC startup

Hello everyone,

I found an old PC that I use to run a small laser engraver, so it isn’t used very often.

Every time I want to use it, I plug it in and press the PC’s power button. The power light comes on, the fan starts and then stops right away. I unplug the plug, restart it, and sometimes it starts, and other times I have to do it a second time...

When it is on, there’s no problem, so I’m wondering where that could come from?

It’s an Acer M5910, at least for the tower and the power supply; for the rest, I don’t know if the motherboard is original...

It’s salvaged.

    Perhaps an overheating issue if you're lucky.

    Beyond that, I advise against investing in parts to diagnose and repair; the reason is that it will cost you less to buy a mini PC, more powerful and with low energy consumption, than to invest in an old PC where the only reason to bother with it would be a passion for retro rather than budget.

      Yes and no: if the device is, for example, only XP compatible, which can block even a virtual machine because the host’s peripherals aren’t recognized, and the old PC is dead and a new high-priced laser cutter is out of reach, the solution perhaps lies in a refurbished XP PC, you can still find them for next to nothing.

    Hello,

    Old hardware, new CR 2032 battery, maybe dusting. Also check if the startup is properly set on the hard drive containing the OS.
