Even if there is a SD card I don’t see too well how to transfer the apps that would be on it and not automatically the data either except by putting them back into the phone’s memory, thus having to pass through a copy on a PC for the latest (or to see on the new one if it has an SD slot that can be accessed without formatting).
Historically one could transfer WhatsApp by copying the local backup file from the old phone into the only WhatsApp directory created on the new one where it isn’t installed, then installing WhatsApp.
I failed to do this a few months ago on a newer Android version: there remains only to make a Google WhatsApp backup from the old phone which will be recovered by installing WhatsApp on the new one.
There used to also be a transfer app (I think Moto Migrate); nothing proves it works on a source phone that is very old or, conversely, a target that is very new (Android versions).
Motorola simply suggests going through Google; from what we understand, during installation the new phone would automatically offer this recovery, it remains to know if the old phone allows it, it’s a Wi‑Fi transfer, hello data usage if the phones aren’t connected to a Wi‑Fi router.
The scope of what can be recovered is uncertain and in any case the apps from the old phone on an Android version that is no longer compatible will be lost.

Assuming the format is the same micro SD, you will be able from the old phone to copy all autonomous data (photos...) that you will then retrieve on the new one, provided it does not require, as mentioned earlier, formatting the card on first use, but I doubt very much that apps can be done.
It would be necessary to transfer those from the old phone's apps that are not in its memory, which we cannot do without uninstalling and reinstalling, and it is unlikely that these apps or their data alone will work on the new phone where they would not have been preinstalled. -
