Using the Eraser Tool in Illustrator

Hello, I want to use the eraser tool in Illustrator, but when I use it, it moves my path instead of erasing it.

Hello,

The eraser works on a straight line, not on a shape:

Instead, use the scissors tool, which will cut your shape into several segments that you can delete afterwards.
