Unable to read PDF files Solved

Question

I downloaded PDF files from a website. These files tend to be quite large (50MB). When I try to open one, I get a message saying "the file is damaged, but is being repaired" followed by "an error occurred while opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." Can someone help me! Thank you.

I had the same problem, but when I downloaded the PDF file with JDownloader, the problem was fixed :))))))

It seems that your file is not readable... maybe a problem occurred during the download... or an issue with the original file.

I assume you're using Acrobat Reader
You could possibly try with Foxit Reader

but I'm not sure that will make a difference...

I have no problems reading the file...
I clicked on the link... it took some time but that's normal (it's a big file) then it opened and I was able to save it on my disk...
You probably have an issue with downloading the file, try using a download utility to get it, for example, FlashGet.

Hello  I was following the message  same, no problem opening or downloading the pdf  moreover it is not protected   so it's probably a download issue  --  (_Usul of Arrakis  Serial_Dreamer_)

I suggest we do a little test just to better pinpoint the problem...
could you, after downloading the file, burn it and try to read it on another PC?

if it works, then it's clearly an issue with your PDF readers...

My Mac is on vacation.
The PDFs I created on this Mac,
I need to read them on a Win XP PC.
No way!

It seems that the PDF is not fully cross-platform.
Maybe that's your issue...
What OS are you all on?

I couldn't find your file on Gallica
because I don't have an FTP client on this machine
but I was able to read all the other PDFs...

I have exactly the same problem when I try to open a PDF that I received by email.
However, I can easily read the PDFs found on websites. So, the problem
doesn't come from the Acrobat software. I can't figure out how to fix this issue..

Is there anyone to help me?

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but given the title of the forum, I'm trying.
After an unfortunate crash and a formatted partition where I had very important pdf documents, I performed a getdataback which found all the tree structure and files with the correct names and sizes. But it’s impossible to open the "damaged" files. I've tried all the recovery and repair solutions in vain. Still, I persist in believing that I can recover the files since they are well recognized, but how can I do that? Do you have any ideas? Thank you for your help. My Christmas is looking unhappy...

I almost have a problem related to Adobe Reader; I installed the last two versions, 8 and 9. But when I try to open a PDF file, the page is blank, it says done, whereas before I had no issues reading PDF files.

It seems that there is a solution to fix the issue of opening certain PDF files for which the message "an error has occurred..." is received.
You need to go to the PDF document you want to open. Right-click on Properties.
Go to "Security." Check if the boxes "Allow" and "Full Control" are checked. If they are not checked, then click on "Advanced Settings" and go to "Add." You must then specify "Administrator." You will then have the ability to check all the permission boxes to which you will be redirected.
