Hello,
My setup: PC running Windows XP SP3, Internet Explorer 8.
I have a Canon Pixma MP510 multifunction printer, which is 4 years old, and its copying function is "out," while the other functionalities still work (document and photo printing, scanning).
I am considering installing a 2nd recent multifunction Canon printer (Pixma MG5250).
That said, I wonder if my PC will get confused with two multifunction devices from the same brand.
This applies to both the drivers and the accompanying software for each of these two devices (character recognition software (OCR), photo and document management and printing, etc.).
Could there also be shared DLL files that might cause problems when I want to uninstall the older one, the MP510?

Hello,
When you connect your second printer, Windows will detect new hardware. You will then follow the installation process that will set up the drivers for this new printer.
No, there won't be any confusion from Windows; in the Device Manager, you will see two distinct components with specific identifiers and hardware addresses. Each has its own drivers (even if they are the same), you might even have distinct driver versions, in case the drivers were identical.
To avoid confusion, it would be wise to give each printer an explicit name (which you can do even after installation).
It's the same for two hard drives from the same brand with the same specifications; physically they are distinct, and Windows makes a clear distinction.
