Good evening and above all, thank you to the people who will have the kindness to help me! I'm trying to fix a friend's laptop that is broken; anyway, I'll skip the details.
The laptop, when I picked it up, was impossible to start, it showed on the screen:
no bootable cd in atapi cd-rom
invalid HDD
press "H" to retry Hard disk, any other key for floppy
I put an installation CD of 98SE or XP in the CD drive, I can't remember which one, anyway both work, I got into the operating system, but it kept crashing, so no problem I thought let's do a proper format, which I did. It had two partitions that I deleted and I created one single partition, no problem there. Where it gets tricky is during the installation, it gets stuck 8 minutes from the end and then it starts over for a new installation. I put the 98SE CD in and it takes it entirely, except that it's in 16 colors, I am missing some drivers but what annoys me is installing 98 instead of the XP Pro that it had before. I managed to borrow a bootable CD; the problem is it asks for a command like install in 98, and it doesn't work for XP. Thank you again for your help.

To repair the computer, you need to go to the site "ordina 13"; happiness is found there. Drivers and system reinstallation. Hello everyone.

Thank you for your quick response! But you know we can do that when we have money! So thank you again!!!
You know, you don't need to scratch yourself about me! For that, I don't need your help; I mostly need a good hand to help me out (and especially to help my buddy through me), because his PC has been sitting in his closet for six months, and it was about to go in the trash. I'm not joking, he got it in return for a non-paid job; he's a mason, so you see. And I want to point out that my troubleshooting is always for lost causes or recovering old PCs, free of charge and just for fun! So if you can help, great; otherwise, thanks! And that's it.
check in the BIOS if the hard drive is correctly
detected, and its quality
blow some compressed air into the machine to properly clean the coprocessor's radiator
check the quality of the system CD
either it's a hardware issue
or it's a software issue
check the hardware first

Hey! I finally managed to get into the BIOS! You just have to tap, not press, like they say! Well, the hard drive is recognized, I need to change the boot order at startup so that it boots from the hard drive! That should be done quickly! But here's the catch! Why won't it take XP? After all, it was installed on it, and besides, the XP Pro license is written on the back! During the installation, it asked me for the SP2 CD, I put it in but it didn’t work. I need to find a license with the integrated SP2 pack; that should be able to be sorted out (maybe), if you have any other ideas, I’m open to suggestions anyway, I won’t let it stay with 98, that’s for sure!!!! It’s a matter of principle!
Good evening and thank you for your help!
To explain better, when I first launch it, it opens a page with NEC in big letters and below, in very small print, it tells me to press the F2 key to enter the CMOS setup; I've done that but it doesn't work. Then it tells me, like above, that it's installing the existing operating system, 98SE, with its installation CD (booting from the hard drive).
With the 98SE installer, I have access to the MS-DOS command prompt if that can help us, and thanks again!!!!

I would like to find someone to help me solve a problem
I turn on my NEC Versa C 200 PC, I get to the user section, it says loading your settings and immediately after that disconnects; and nothing happens anymore; I stay on the welcome page next to the user;
Thank you for responding if someone knows how to solve this problem.
