NEC Laptop not starting, black screen

Hello,
I have had a NEC Versa P520 laptop for a long time, which was running Windows XP Pro. Recently, I have encountered a problem: when I turn it on, a black screen appears, and I cannot access the BIOS or see Windows. Nothing shows up, but I can hear the fans, and I can open and close the DVD drive, for example.
This problem occurred while I was installing a game burned onto a DVD on this PC; the screen went to sleep during the installation, and I couldn't find the desktop again. I then turned off the PC by pressing the power button, and since then, I have only seen a black screen when I turn it on. It also takes longer to shut down; I have to press the power button for about 10 seconds.
Does anyone have any suggestions or a solution to my problem?

    Hello,

Try to start with a power reset: disconnect the battery and the charger => then hold the power button for 30 seconds => then try to restart with the charger only....

    Hello...

Try using an external screen, it might help...

    Best regards,

Indeed, try using an external monitor; this allows you to see if your graphics card is burnt out or if it's the screen panel itself.

Quick question: when you start your PC, despite the screen being black, does the PC launch Windows? (do you hear the sweet melody of Windows starting up?)

Well, depending on the possible malfunction of the screen, the sound may also be out of order if the speakers are built-in....--

Not particularly, the wiring of the panel and that of the speakers is different, even though the speakers are on the top cover of the laptop.

My bad, I was talking about a flat external screen, I had "forgotten" that it was a laptop!

    Thank you for your responses:
@momri: I tried the power reset again, but unfortunately without results...
@borisdu: No, the PC doesn't launch Windows, at least there’s no sound, and I can't seem to enter the BIOS either.
@poupougne13: I will try the external monitor tonight and keep you updated.

As for the speakers, I have no idea, I tried with headphones but got no results. They are not integrated into the upper part (the one with the screen) on this model, but in the lower part where the battery, etc. is located. I don’t know if this information can help.

I will edit this post as soon as I have tried the external monitor; in the meantime, if you have any other solutions, feel free to let me know!

We will be able to tell you more once the test with an external screen has been completed.

No access to the BIOS either?
Could you find the battery on the motherboard of this machine... if so, try to remove it, test it, and put it back (if it is indeed 3Vdc!) or change it if it's dead...
P.S.: any beeps when powering on or not?

Yep, if you have beeps at startup, try to find out how many there are and their proximity.
Then, when you let your phone boot up, does the hard drive work?

    Thank you.
No access to the BIOS. I'll take care of the motherboard battery tonight!
The hard drive isn't working either, the indicator light doesn't come on and I don't hear any noise from it...
And regarding the beeps, I don't have any. I only have a sort of loud hiss (the one you hear when you turn on a laptop), but instead of decreasing when Windows starts, as usual, this noise remains constant. I don't know if that means anything.
I'll post again when I know more about this battery!
