Hello,  I plug in my printer, the red light comes on, the message says; cleaning impossible (err 46)   I can't get rid of it: Can someone help me fix this? Thanks in advance. See you soon.

Here is the procedure found on the Internet
- turn on the machine
- press "MENU", "SINGLE START", "MENU", "SINGLE START" in less than 5 seconds.
- then "MAINTENANCE" is displayed, use the UP or DOWN keys to display 80, then press the SINGLE START key until the message "PURGE" followed by a number appears. To reset the counter to "0000", you need to enter 2783, displaying successively the digits 2, 7, 8, and 3 using the UP or DOWN keys, confirming each digit with the "OK" key each time.
To exit, use the STOP/EXIT key
Unplug the power cable, wait 5 seconds, then plug it back in

Personally, I had to try several times, and now I print normally.

here's what I found elsewhere that worked for me

pull out the AC plug
- put back the AC plug while holding down the "menu" button and keep holding it (15 sec)
- now you are entering the MAINTENANCE mode and "error 46" pops up on the display
- select 8 by using the arrow buttons, push OK and select 0 and push OK
- 00:00 00:01 OK (the display is showing this message)
- now push the MONO button 25 times until you see PURGE: xxxxx
- Select 2, push ok, select 7, push ok, select 8, push ok, select 3, push ok
- the purge counter indicates now: purge: 00000
- switch off the printer, switch it on
- ready to print

and yes it’s ready to print

However, on the BROTHER website, as I just read on this page, and I quote "The Machine Error Code 46 indicates that the ink absorption pad is full and needs to be replaced. You will need a technician to replace this." end of quote; it appears that a "software" reset is just one step.

The second step involves emptying or replacing the ink collection pad used during head cleaning. If you do not proceed with this replacement, it is quite possible that the ink from the cleanings will eventually overflow... What do you think will happen then?

Brother DCP-353C reset.
Reset procedure:
Unplug the printer for 5 seconds.
Plug it back in while holding the menu button.
reset.impos46 appears in small letters.
Use the up and down arrows to select the number 8, then the number 0.
maintenance 80 will be displayed.
Search for purge using the up and down arrows. OK
To reset the counter to "0000", you must enter 2783, successively displaying the numbers 2, 7, 8, and 3 using the UP or DOWN keys, confirming each number with the "OK" key each time.
