Hello everyone
So, I have a little problem with FireWire. I have an external sound card from Presonus and my computer does not recognize my card, despite having installed the driver from Presonus.
I tried the external sound card on another computer and it works.
I think the IEE1394 port is not activated?
However, it appears in the Device Manager and the driver has no errors.
My PC: Acer 5720Z running Windows XP Pro SP2
Sound card: Firepod
Thank you!

Good evening,
Maybe check in your network connections if your IE1394 port is not set to disabled?? In which case right-click on it and Enable.
Philippe -
Hi Philippe,
No, the 1394 connection is indeed enabled,
maybe there's another place where we can enable it, like the registry or boot.ini?
Thank you.-
A friend who is a computer expert advised me to reboot the computer before the Windows XP screen (if you have XP, of course). The "virtual" network card 1394 was indeed "enabled." He suggested I connect a network card. So I did. I bought the network card (they're available everywhere, even at Darty). And it works. You shouldn't be afraid to leave the software.
That said, if you have another solution, I'm open to it. The network card I paid for is still under warranty.

Good evening,
The easiest solution would be to find someone in your circle who has a camcorder with a FireWire output and connect it to your computer. If the image transfer works, it means your port is fine and there is another issue to address.
Have you tested your card on another computer with Win XP PRO as well?
But rather, do the IEE1394 port test first.
Philippe -
Hello again,
I tested the card on a laptop with Vista, and for the camcorder, I tried and there's no recognition of the camcorder.
It's true that I changed the operating system from Vista to XP and I hadn't tried the FireWire port before the change.
That's it, -
Hello,
Have you tested it on another PC with the same Firewire cable or a different cable???
If it's not the cable, then you can uninstall the IEE 1394 device in the manager and then restart your PC; it will automatically reinstall the driver, but make sure to create a restore point first.
Also, get additional advice from XP Pro users before proceeding with this operation.
Being on XP, this operation doesn't cause me any issues, but with all the quirks of computing §§§ it's better to be cautious; you can also try other Firewire devices to see if your Firewire connection works well.
Philippe -
Hello,
Okay,
-Same FireWire cable on another PC
-I already did the uninstall manipulation, no result
-And I tried another sound card that works on another PC and I think I have a problem with the 1394 port and the connection.
I've already asked the question on other forums and not many solutions. So I'm trying again and again.
Thank you. -
Hello,
You just need to try your Firewire card on another PC before making a purchasing decision.
As you have heard, be sure to check the card's connections by unplugging, cleaning, and reconnecting everything.
As of now, I don't have any other solutions to offer you; I hope you find the solution quickly.
Keep us updated on the results, it could always be helpful to others.

Re,
Yes, not simple indeed, I've already completely disassembled mine but it's not obvious, so the solution is a FIREWIRE card in a PCMCIA card through the PCMCIA port if your PC is equipped with it.
See you later
Philippe -
Yes, I thought of this solution, but still having an IEE port and not being able to use it is silly!
Thank you -

Good evening,
just by chance, have you checked in your Device Manager, general tab that the device is enabled???
Otherwise, could you give me the name of the manufacturer of this IEEE1394 controller?
On Acer, I couldn't find anything on this issue, now you can also go to their site and request assistance.
See you later
Philippe -
Yes, the device is indeed activated and I found only this information:
Manufacturer: IEEE 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller Supplier
Driver Provider: Microsoft
And for Acer, since I changed from Vista to XP, they can't help me.
Thank you. -
Good evening,
I suppose you tried to revert to the previous version of the driver for this controller, as suggested by the various options when double-clicking on this IEEE1394 controller in your manager.
It's still surprising that it doesn't show you the manufacturer; you did click the + on the controller, right?
I really don't see any other solutions to propose to you, is it a hardware issue or could it be because you installed XP PRO which it didn't like???
Of course, you wouldn't go back to Vista, just to see what happens with your restore CD; that would be a hassle to do.
You still have the PCMCIA solution to be able to enjoy your external sound card.
Sorry I can't do more; drop a little UP every now and then to see if other candidates might have the solution.
I'll see if I can find some support elsewhere, but I can't promise anything.
See you, Philippe -

The 1394 connection (Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections (display categories and not classic)) indicates that everything is fine. But if you look closely in the 1394 connection status window, it should indicate packet activity for sending and receiving. If both sides show Zero, then even though it's active, it's not functioning. You can always disable it. Right-click on the connection icon and select disable. You do everything you need to do: log off, turn off the computer, and unplug your router (the box you have) and then turn it back on. Check everything and reactivate the 1394 connection.
If the response is negative, try going into the POST screen of the computer. It's not easy; you'll need to be quick and have your eyes glued to the screen.
1- Restart your computer.
2- As soon as the Windows XP screen appears, in the lower left: press tab to show the POST screen. You need to quickly press the tab key on your keyboard. It's the second key below the Escape key.
3- You have pressed it.
4- Right after that, in the same location, at the bottom left (and quickly): press delete, hit the delete key.
Once you have successfully done all that, the SET UP screen will appear. And you can no longer use your mouse.
When you reach this level, reply to me, and I'll provide you with the next steps.
It's up to you.

ok mohills,
I am willing to follow your instructions, not tonight, it's a bit late.
Leave me the rest of the process because once I start I can't connect?
Otherwise you are right, no package in the connection state.
The button with the small 2 is the one I should press first?
Thank you.-
Good evening Rikou,
No, the tab key is the one below with two arrows pointing in opposite directions. When you press it, at the bottom left of the screen --> press delete (the delete key). And normally the setup starts and the Phoenix - Award Bios... window appears. Using the navigation keys (you cannot use your mouse anymore), go to ADVANCES on the menu bar. There you should normally see the following settings:
> IDE FUNCTION SET UP
> NURAID CONFIGURATION
> ON BOARD IEEE 1394 [ENABLED] (enabled)
If this is the case (it was mine) you have no choice but to buy a network card and install it in your computer.
In case [DISABLED] (disabled) is indicated, then you need to enable it. In this case, you must go to the setup (by clicking on it). A margin appears on the right where it seems you have the option to enable it: ENABLE.
I hope my input has been helpful.
Unless the post from vieu bison boiteu has already helped you solve your problem. Sorry for the delay.
Good night.

hello everyone
during the discussion, we start from the DV port of the Acer laptop to reach a network connection
it's not the same function as "IEEE" 1394
http://www.cijoint.fr/cjlink.php?file=cj200909/cijefPLmIV.png
for the DV port of the laptop, it is a IEEE 1394 bus host controller compatible with CHCI
( functioning like USB2.0 )
it's the video capture software that controls it
( 4-pin DV connector )
for the 1394 network card, it's for RJ45 - LAN 10/100/1000
( may be disabled if using WiFi )
see you

Hi,
Sorry, but a little move made me forget the forum,
So Mohills, I tried your method but I can't get into the setup, two points:
1- On my PC I can enter the setup with the F2 key when the Acer screen shows up (just before the Windows XP screen) but the only problem in my setup "inside H20" is that there is no advanced option or
2- When you asked me to press delete, the delete key I have on my computer is on the right side of the screen, so I don't quite understand your method, sorry but I'm not really good with computers.
For old bison boiteu: Okay, if I understand what you mean, would that come from my driver?
In the box of my sound card, there is a CD driver IEEE1394, actually it's an installation of Ulead VideoStudio 8 that I installed but without more success for the recognition of my sound card.
Thanks to you, if you have any leads, don't hesitate.

Hello,
Latest news:
A friend lent me a FireWire ExpressCard 34, and when I plug it in, my computer displays:
"Power over the hub port: malfunction of a USB device that has exceeded the power limits of its hub port. You must disconnect the device."
Despite this, I tried my sound card which is recognized; but the recording is distorted and sped up. Bad functioning probably due to the power issue mentioned above.
See you soon.-
Hi
Does the ExpressCard 34 FireWire have its own 5 volts power supply???
A connector like that of a laptop to power it, but smaller in diameter???
Like this USB card, on the right side
http://www.abix.fr/expresscard-4-ports-usb-20,article,305027.html
The device you connect to the FireWire port of the laptop must be powered as well
To install the IEEE1394 drivers, you need to manually find them in the installation directory on the CD
And then connect your device
See you later

Hello,
Okay for the expresscard, there is a cable with one side a USB plug and the other side a power plug like in your photo. I was thinking of a USB power supply, but according to you, I should power it with an external power supply.
For my external sound card, there is an independent power supply.
Okay for the 1394 drivers, I think I found them (ps_1394.sys) and (ps_1394_FIREPOD.inf), is that it?
However, I don't know the procedure to install them manually, can you help me? -
Re
<...a power supply like in your photo...> = yes, it's to power it with 5 volts 2 amps
<...(ps_1394.sys) and (ps_1394_FIREPOD.inf)...> = yes
in the "Device Manager"
right-click on Computer, "Manage" to access "Computer Management"
then "Device Manager"; do you not have a yellow circle when your card is connected???
see you
--
no link to a web page in English, I'm already flying solo enough -
<...a power socket like in your photo...> = yes, it's to power it with 5 volts 2 amps
= yes, and I checked the socket provided with the express card, plugged into a USB port it gives 5V.
we're talking about the express card, where I had to disable a USB hub to no longer get the message "power creation ... etc" every time I insert it into the slot.
don't you have a yellow ring when your card is plugged in??? = no, everything is working fine.
now we're talking about the FireWire audio interface "Firepod"; which is now recognized by the express card and still not by the 1394 port of my laptop.
I'm also summarizing a bit for myself because I want to make sure we're talking about the same thing, dealing with two topics even if they are related.
thank you, ciao -
1°) So for <..the power supply message..>
the power delivered for USB and FireWire ports (at 5 volts) is not sufficient
=> with a 5 volt and 4 amp power supply (approximately), this problem is solved
2°) for the FireWire DV port, it should be tested
- either with a digital camera (with the appropriate cable)
- or with a digital camcorder with DV port (with DV-DV cable)

Hello Rykou,
We are waiting to hear from you regarding the USB ports disconnection to see if it partially resolves the issue.
Well done for your perseverance and for trying the card; now we need to see if disconnecting your USB ports allows your Firewire port to work directly???? It’s all quite strange.
See you, Philippe-
Hello Philippe,
it's good to have a response, because it was completely quiet on the solution front.
However, I don't understand
"We're waiting for your news on this USB port disconnection to see if it partially resolves the problem."
I tried that, but on another forum, and it was for the power spike issue with the expresscard...
Well, otherwise I've always been out of luck, and I'm starting to think that I must have a motherboard problem.
Because: 1 - firewire issue that recognizes nothing and doesn't respond to anything
2 - USB port issue (messages saying "power spike on USB port, remove the device") when I connect the expresscard.
I tried my sound card, my firewire cables, and the adapter, and the expresscard on another laptop, and there were no issues with any of them.
Thanks, and I will continue to search, with your help of course!

Hello,
Yes, we didn't really have any solutions to propose to you, we have exhausted our knowledge resources.
For your FireWire card, you are connecting it correctly to the PCMCIA, to answer your question about the USB ports power issues.
"Power issue on the hub port: malfunction of a USB device that has exceeded the power limits of its hub port. You must disconnect the device."
Disconnect from the USB PORTS and check if you still have this info message, then reactivate each port one by one, until you find the fault.
Personally, I don’t see the link between the PCMCIA port and the USB ports, but I am not an expert in this matter.
Old Bison might tell you a bit more about this.
Philippe-
It's an ExpressCard 35 2-port FireWire that I connect to the ExpressCard slot on the left side of the keyboard.
To respond,
"Disconnect from the USB PORTS and check if you still have this info message," okay, I found the 6th "USB Root Hub," which when I enable it and then insert the card, displays the message "power supply error.. etc."
By disabling this hub, I lost a USB port on the side.
So, it's an isolated problem; it hasn't given me the IEE1394 connectivity, but I can now connect my ExpressCard.
What should I do now?
