Hello,

I just bought a car and I have an original stereo that I don’t want to remove because it works with the onboard computer.

I've heard that there are USB adapters that can be plugged into the cigarette lighter, where you can listen to music from a USB drive.

I can't understand how that can work.

dear friend
it works like a radio transmitter.
the device you plug your USB key into sends out a radio signal that you pick up with your original receiver.
you set it to the same frequency and you're good to go.
you can thus enjoy the music from your USB key.
of course, you will only be able to change the song using the device where you plug in the key, not your radio receiver.

Hi, you also need a USB key to connect it to the cigarette lighter. It's sold with a remote control, the whole thing is 15 to 20€ without the USB key. I'm from Bordeaux :)

I'm hesitant to buy a car cigarette lighter transmitter to listen to music in the car via USB (my car radio doesn't do that and I'm tired of burning CDs for 6 or 8 songs that I skip after 2 or 3 months...) but it seems that they are often quite fragile and that many of them have rather mediocre sound quality...?

I have the same problem. I connected an FM transmitter to the cigarette lighter and attached my MP3 player to it, then set the same frequency on the car radio and the transmitter. The song starts, but no sound comes out of the radio; it doesn't recognize it and says it's not found. Please help me, even though the radio works well. It's a 2006 Yaris. Thank you.
