Hello,
Currently, I have a Sony Bravia LCD TV connected to a VCR via an 8-meter scart cable that is built-in (non-removable). I intend to buy a hard disk recorder. How can I connect the TV and the recorder using HDMI? Are there adapters available that convert Scart to HDMI, or is it possible to desolder the Scart and solder HDMI connectors instead?
Thank you in advance

The topic is a bit old, but since it has been brought up, we'll add our two cents :)
Converters were really expensive at the time of the question.
Now they still cost something, but it's reasonable.
The one presented here is honestly very good:

And don't just get a simple SCART/HDMI cable because a cable won't convert the digital signal into an analog signal.

I have a question, I understand the benefit of this converter.
However, I would like to know if the image quality is as good as if we had an HD input on the TV. Let me explain: I just got fiber optics installed at home and unfortunately my TV's HDMI ports are dead.
Will a converter not degrade the image quality?
Thank you very much for your help.
